207I’ve always found it peculiar that the X-COM soldiers don’t start with standard military combat armour. Sure it’s not likely to be very effective, but any armour is better than none. Personal armour is a massive step up in survivability for your soldiers as well as the armour you’ll likely be using all the way to the endgame when it’ll be replaced with the power suit. You could rush researching the power suit but I feel getting other things researched first is more important, like the laser cannon for income and the heavy plasma for a decent weapon to use, but there are advantages to having the far better armour.
The power suit provides better protection than personal armour in every respect as well as granting immunity to damage from fire and stun damage from smoke. It’s more expensive to manufacture and the added cost of the elerium consumed during construction can make it prohibitive to make if you’re running low on it, but we’ve got plenty at present. There’s no reason not to equip the entire of your active squad with it either, as you want to give all your soldiers the best chance to survive that they can get. There’s one final upgrade to armour that we can get beyond power suits but that’s a little beyond us right now, though we’ll surely get there in time.
