I picked this game up from the Racial Justice bundle from itch.io.

Splodey Vaders takes the top-down bullet hell style game, and smooshes it together with space invaders. mobs come down from the top of the screen, and you have to shoot 'em. When you do, they'll explode into shrapnel which will fly in random directions. Sometimes at you, sometimes towards other mbos. If the shrapnel hits other mobs, you get a combo multiplier the more things get exploded in a chain. It feels great when that happens. I also love the additional mechanic of what happens when a mob makes it to the bottom of the screen: a fire starts, and you won't be able to cross over that spot for a while, complicating things further.

The low-res style really works for this game, and I love that you can unlock different colours and ships. It's such a small thing, but it adds a certain charm to the whole game.

I'm gonna be honest: I did not expect to spend as much time playing this seemingly easy game for as long as I did, and yet it turns out that the game is harder than I thought and also I am bad at it! I set the goal of getting 1000 points, which I didn't think would be that hard, and yet...
