In the last part of Episode 1, Alex and Gabe share a quiet moment of sibling bonding on the rooftop, with Alex sharing her past experiences and mysterious secrets with her brother - before the reunion is interrupted by news of Ethan's disappearance. Taking Ryan with them, the little search party traces the boy's route all the way to the mines, with Alex deciphering his progress with the aid of Ethan's comic that he donated to her earlier on. Although the rescue operation gets tense when Alex realizes that she needs to use her powers to help Ethan overcome his fear, in the end everything seems to go well... until the sirens announce the start of the blasting operation, which is when tragedy predictably strikes.
