This is the longplay of the game Mortal Kombat, a fighting game first released for Arcades in 1992, having been developed and published by Midway Games, and later received domestic versions for several consoles by Acclaim Entertainment. This is the original version released for Arcades.

The Mortal Kombat saga was created by Ed Boon (programmer and director) and John Tobias (comics artist, graphic designer, game designer), two Americans who had the mission to make a fighting game. Both decided to fulfill an old dream of a game similar to Karate Champ, but with realistic and digitized graphics, and recruited artist John Vogel and sound designer Dan Forden for the project. The initial idea was for a ninja-themed game, but this was initially rejected by Midway for suggesting an action game based on the upcoming film Universal Soldier, featuring a digitized version of star Jean-Claude Van Damme, but the actor turned it down. . Faced with this, Boon and Tobias had the help of people, until then unknown, to interpret the characters, which would be captured and digitized.

The game's story revolves around a Shaolin martial arts tournament, which has long been a competition for honor and glory. Warriors from all over the world were invited to participate and Shang Tsung was one of those warriors and immediately won the title of Grand Champion. But Shang Tsung was a cursed being, who besides killing needed to suck the soul of his enemies. A monk named The Great Kung Lao defeats Shang Tsung and takes his title. Years later, after the mysterious death of one of the three Grand-masters, Shang Tsung returned, mysteriously aged and weakened by his defeats and by failing in his rituals, bringing with him a half-human, half-dragon creature, a four-armed Shokan known as Goro. He faced the Great Kung Lao, but although Kung Lao fought valiantly, Goro defeated the monk, culminating in his death. Shang Tsung absorbed Kung Lao's soul which would only be released much later. For that old tournament his victory marked the end of an era. 500 years have passed after Goro's victory and the death of the great Kung Lao, Goro has already accumulated nine straight victories with only one victory left for Shang Tsung to conquer the Earthrealm and deliver humanity as a prize to his emperor in a dark and macabre kingdom, known as Outworld.
But now the once-in-a-generation tournament features a new crop of fighters, many unaware that they are facing a deadly tournament led by Shang Tsung. Among the fighters we have: Liu Kang, a monk who was trained since he was a child and considered as the Earth's salvation; Johnny Cage, a martial arts movie actor who is low in career popularity and receives an invitation to participate in the tournament, without suspecting that it is extremely dangerous; Kano, a mercenary who is the leader of a criminal organization called Black Dragon; Sonya Blade, a female US Special Forces lieutenant, who is after Kano to put him in prison; Raiden, the God of Thunder, who was invited to compete in Mortal Kombat and takes on a human form and finally the ninjas Sub-Zero, who has freezing powers, and Scorpion, who is an undead with fire powers. And these two ninjas are mortal enemies.

When it was first released, Mortal Kombat brought a number of innovations to the gaming world. The game featured digitized graphics based on footage of real actors and stood out for its violence, with characters bleeding from each blow received and being able to perform Fatality, graphically and bloodily executing a defeated opponent. The game's success spawned a series with many sequels and spin-off works, including a film in 1995, but it also sparked much controversy for its depiction of extreme and realistic violence, resulting in the introduction of age-specific ratings outlined in content for the video games. . Gameplay is very simple, with an 8-way directional stick and 5 buttons (Low Punch, High Punch, Low Kick, High Kick, and Block), a few button sequences for special moves, and a fatality for each character. The game was very revolutionary in its time and is still remembered for its innovations and controversies. The video was made playing with all the characters and showing all the endings.
Note: I made some small cuts between one ending and another (yes, it is possible to skip the credits and go straight to character selection) and I left the staff roll with the credits only at the end to make the video more watchable. I hope you enjoy the video.
