It's a bird? It's a plane? No, it's Superman! This is a longplay of Superman, an action, beat 'n up and shooter game developed and distributed by Taito Corporation, released for Arcades in 1988 and featuring the popular DC Comics character, Superman.
In this game, the player controls Superman, who must fight his way through five levels to save the world from the evil Emperor Zaas. The game can be played alone or in multiplayer, where Player 1 takes control of Superman with the blue uniform and traditional red cape, while Player 2 controls a Superman with red uniform and gray cape. The adventure begins in Metropolis and passes through scenarios such as San Francisco, Las Vegas and Washington, D.C..
Superman is capable of punching, kicking and flying, as well as being able to use a "Power Burst" when the player holds then releases the punch button. There are also the objects in the levels that he can throw at enemies and/or break to get items, which are crystals that can restore the hero's energy, allow the player to launch a projectile attack without charging, or defeat all enemies on the screen. In addition to the beat 'n up stages, the game also features shooter stages, where Superman shoots lightning through his eyes to destroy enemies and obstacles. The game is linear, with several stages and a boss at the end of each stage. Gameplay for both players is identical. The presence of this alternate Superman is never explained in the game and is only intended as a co-operative gameplay mechanic, however, a red Superman did exist, in an imaginary story published in Superman (vol. 162. It's a good game, quite challenging like the Arcade games of its time and with good graphics and soundtrack (the Superman theme is easily recognized in the game).
