Magic Sword (SNES) Playthrough - NintendoComplete
733A playthrough of Capcom's 1992 platformer for the Super NES, Magic Sword.
Played through on hard through all 50 (51?) stages without using any warps. I keep the lizardman as my partner for the entire game once I get him.
Magic Sword was a great game in the arcade - it looked and sounded really good, it threw a lot of action on the screen at once, and it didn't tend to eat TOO many quarters once you started to memorize which doors were traps and which had good bonuses behind them.
The SNES version is, of course, less hectic than the coin-op one - there are far fewer enemies on-screen at once, and the game does slowdown fairly frequently. Besides that, it is a pretty faithful conversion. It suffers from some of the same issues as Final Fight (most notably the second-player was axed), but it has more than enough variety to keep it interesting for just a single player. Because of the difference in speed and activity, though, what was already a fairly easy (for an arcade game) becomes just that much easier for the home version (again, like Final Fight!).
It's a high-quality port that makes concessions similar to most 16-bit games of its ilk, and just as good a port as any other that Capcom did for the SNES. If you like the idea of Gauntlet turned into a 2D platformer, this is an excellent choice. If not, well, try it anyway. It's really well put-together.
I included the bad ending at the very end of the video (when the final boss gives you an ultimatum, a la Streets of Rage).
