Sengoku (SNES) Playthrough - NintendoComplete
A playthrough of Data East's 1993 beat 'em up for the Super NES, Sengoku Denshou (戦国伝承).
Played through on hard as Bill. The Japanese game was patched to play in English.
This port of the awesome Neo Geo beat 'em up has been altered and stripped down so much that it barely resembles the original game, but it still plays well enough. A bit too easy, but it's so weird that you'll probably appreciate the ability to take the time to really look at some of the odd stuff going on. In case it wasn't immediately obvious, I chose Bill because I liked the idea of playing as a pimp decked-out in pink (okay, so he's supposed to be a cowboy - I don't buy it) fighting centuries old Japanese demons. It really is absurd.
This was never released in the US, though it was planned and later cancelled. There is also a version for the Sega CD that far more closely resembles the arcade version, but it looks awful and takes out the two-player mode.
I have to say, I do miss the old man that comes out of the skull telling you, "I appreciate it." I do appreciate the ability to switch your forms still being here, though. Not that the game has to worry about ever being called generic, but the feature absolutely helps to distinguish it from the crowd in terms of its game play.
