MGS2: Sons Of Liberty Walkthrough Part 2: Big Shell
After a gunfight with mercenaries' second-in-command, Snake heads into tanker's cargo holds. As he moves through the hallways on the ship's lower levels, Snake sees a group of Gurlukovich's mercenaries locking the door leading into cargo holds and ends up engaging them in an shootout before heading into cargo holds himself. As he enters, Snake realizes that most of the tanker's crew moved into cargo holds where they are following a speech by Marine commandant Scott Dolph broadcast from the hold housing their Metal Gear prototype codenamed RAY. Realizing that Marines in the holds are cut off and have no idea that Gurlukovich and his men hijacked the tanker, Snake navigates past them and enters the hold housing Metal Gear RAY, proceeding to follow Otacon's instructions and covertly photograph it from multiple angles as well as an insignia declaring it as the property of USMC. After taking the photos, Snake uses the PC repurposed by Otacon to send the photos to him since he has discovered that someone is monitoring their CODEC communications. After sending the photos, Snake prepares to escape. However, as he does, Ocelot appears and produces a detonator, revealing that tanker is primed for detonation in order to keep Dolph and his Marines at bay long enough for Gurlukovich's men to descend into the hold as well with Sergei Gurlukovich taking Dolph hostage as Ocelot and his mercenaries work to prepare Metal Gear RAY for transport. As this happens, Sergei reveals his plan to Dolph; Hijack Metal Gear RAY and sell it to Russian Federation in order to let them use the weapon to regain global influence lost after the fall of Soviet Union. However, Ocelot shows his true colors, revealing that he never shared Sergei's goal and that he intends to secure the weapon for "The Patriots". Enraged at this betrayal, Sergei tries to shoot Ocelot only to end up killed alongside Dolph and his mercenaries as Ocelot shoots them all in rapid succession. Afterwards, Ocelot detonates the explosives on the tanker, causing severe structural damage to it. Realizing that he has to stop him, Snake calls out to Ocelot and runs towards him. As he notices Snake, Ocelot's replaced right hand seizes up painfully. As he regains control, Ocelot addresses Snake in tone and voice identical to late Liquid Snake, much to Snake's shock, proceeding to imply that his spirit possessed Ocelot's body through his replaced arm as it was taken off Liquid's own body, also revealing that this is his ticket for longer life as error in genetics of Big Boss' clones such as Snake means that he will have naturally shorter lifespan than average human being. Before he can say more, explosion knocks Snake into water with Liquid hijacking RAY and using its weaponry to attack Marines trying to prevent his escape and inflict further damage upon sinking tanker before finally jumping into water and escaping while Snake seemingly drowns while trying to swim away from sinking wreck of a tanker.
On April 29th, 2009, nearly two years after Tanker incident and Solid Snake's death, Big Shell, an offshore water cleanup facility erected to sanitize the effects of a major oil spill in New York Bay, is taken over by a terrorist group calling itself Sons Of Liberty. Made up of rogue Navy SEALs training unit called Dead Cell and hired Gurlukovich mercenaries, they demand a 30 billion dollars in ransom money, using Big Shell itself as leverage since its destruction would mean an unprecedented ecological catastrophe. In addition, terrorists also have multiple VIP hostages within Big Shell, including the US president himself. Due to this, Navy SEALs have undertaken an official rescue mission to try and save the hostages while FOXHOUND, seemingly reformed after the events of Shadow Moses incident, secretly sent in a rookie operative codenamed Snake with the orders to secure the president and stop the terrorists. As he enters the facility, Snake quickly realizes that someone else has entered the area and is eventually contacted by his mission commander, Colonel Roy Campbell who changes Snake's codename to Raiden due to terrorists' leader calling himself Solid Snake, despite real Solid Snake apparently being dead and framed as the terrorist responsible for sinking of USS Discovery that necessitated the construction of Big Shell in the first place. He also reveals that his girlfriend Rose has been brought into mission to serve as mission analyst, much to Raiden's discomfort and gives him his first objective; Reach facility's strut B where president was last sighted and ensure that Navy SEALs' Team 10 successfully rescues him. Raiden also contacts Rose and asks her to investigate Solid Snake's post-Shadow Moses activities...
