Silent Hill 4: The Room Walkthrough Part 12: 21 Sacraments (FINAL BOSS FIGHT & ENDING)
Upon descending the final section of spiral staircase, Henry and Eileen find themselves in what appears to be room 302, although it is furnished differently than Henry's version of the room. Upon investigating multiple papers and books left around the apartment, Henry realizes that those are the final notes written by Joseph prior to his disappearance while one of the books contains description of a ritual that Joseph tried to perform to save himself. Upon returning to the main room, Henry and Eileen find a black, faceless figure stuck upside down in the apartment's ceiling, this being Joseph who actually became one of Walter's victims, having been killed within the room 302 after becoming trapped in there. Joseph tells Henry more about Walter Sullivan, claiming that adult Walter who has been pursuing him and Eileen is actually dead, having performed a "ritual of assumption" on his physical body in order to create the alternate reality where he ended up trapping most of his victims before killing them, including both Henry and Eileen who are still alive but trapped within said alternate reality with Eileen also being in worse position since Walter has nearly killed her in real world, allowing him to try and "possess" her like the rest of his victims. Joseph also tells Henry that younger manifestation of Walter is a fragment of Walter's soul which represents his innocence and desire to return to his birth mother while adult Walter wants to perform 21 sacraments in order to both reunite with his mother and cleanse the world of its sins despite the ritual actually risking the manifestation of literal hell on Earth should it be accomplished with Joseph urging Henry to perform the ritual described in his book in order to kill Walter for good, also providing him with a mysterious pick axe left by the wall between the apartment's bathroom and bedroom. Upon returning to his own room 302, Henry uses the pick axe to knock down the said wall, uncovering a hidden storage room. Upon entering to explore it, Henry uncovers a horrifying sight; Real physical corpse of adult Walter Sullivan crucified in the middle of the room with numbers 11/21 carved into his feet, revealing that "ritual of assumption" involved Walter killing himself via self-crucifixion, effectively making himself eleventh victim of his own killing spree. Upon investigating Walter's corpse, Henry finds a bundle of keys which he uses to unlock the chains holding his front door shut, finally allowing him to escape into actual South Ashfield Heights. However, it quickly turns out that Henry isn't safe yet as Walter's supernatural influence has extended into the building, transforming it into its alternate, nightmarish form which Henry and Eileen must traverse together. As they explore the building, Eileen starts showing pity for Walter due to his bad childhood and eventually separates from Henry while Henry manages to enter Frank Sunderland's apartment and take Walter's umbilical cord, realizing that it will be necessary to kill him. Upon acquiring the cord, Henry returns to room 302 and finds a new portal-like hole under Walter's crucified corpse. Upon jumping in, Henry finds himself in the underground chamber where visibly possessed Eileen is slowly walking into spinning, bladed contraption meant to kill her while armed Walter is preparing for personal confrontation with his final would-be victim alongside horrifying monster adhered to a wall which carries resemblance to Walter's crucified corpse. In the ensuing battle against physically invulnerable Walter, Henry attacks the monster using Walter's umbilical cord with this creating eight spears representing Walter's last eight victims. Upon stabbing the monster with the spears, Henry engages now vulnerable Walter in one final battle and eventually kills him with this also killing Walter's younger self and wiping Walter's alternate reality from existence, finally allowing Henry to return to the real world.
Next day, Henry visits recovering Eileen at St. Jerome hospital with Eileen concluding that she will most likely move somewhere else once she recovers.
