I can take the game's word for it that Crit Status works as intended, but I am just more at ease to see actual differences with and without. Also throwing Blast coating into the test, since I don't know much about coatings.

Basically, with the Taroth Arrow "Blast" (currently the bow with the most Blast element), the inherent Blast value in the bow is just high enough to show observable differences when tested against poor old low rank GREAT Jagras.

i) Crit Status does help in building up status, just don't ask by how much.

ii) Blast coating do not add to the inherent Blast element. It overwrites it just like other ailment coatings. It has slightly less Blast compared to the Taroth Arrow "Blast", but just slightly.

iii) Crit Status also help in building up Blast with Blast coating, and presumably for other ailment coatings as well.

All of these tests are conducted multiple times, with me purposefully hitting different parts the monster. I'm pretty sure hitzones don't affect status buildup, but don't take my words for it.

All builds are functionally identical. Crit Status does not activate if the hit doesn't crit. No meal, hence no meal buffs.

Cat does not use Blast weapon, nor gives any buff that help in building up ailments. I just forgot to put it away.
