Welcome back inside the Box!
The other day I was thinking about some amazing games that I played non stop for long periods, and then revisited only on rare occasions after beating them, so I asked myself, why didn’t I touch them again?
The answer was simple, I completed all the content that I was interested to tackle in every of those games, and I realized, that perhaps new content could bring me back to them.
I’m not a big fan of live service video games, mainly because often times they feature very intrusive micro transaction systems, but I have to say that constantly adding new experiences can really help a game to live longer, and in some cases, even fix a greedy launch.
So, I want to propose different solutions to bring new content inside games for free, without having your gamer butt kicked out of your apartment because you couldn’t pay the rent after you spent 1000 dollars or euros on skins! And all of this will be based on the individual gaming genres.
In a perfect world, we wouldn’t have to suffer microtransactions, but since they will stay, we can propose better solutions to keep us engaged with games and also allow publishers to monetize their products.
But before that, we have to establish some rules:
• Number 1: if the game is part of an already existing franchise the monetization can not impact areas that were free in previous titles, and well received by the audience
• Number 2: monetization can never affect gameplay, or the game becomes a pay to win disaster!
• Number 3: new content added to the game must be valuable, and never feel like filler, unless it is the filler itself to be monetized.
By following these three rules, we will determine how to get new free content in every gaming genre, and more, without removing the satisfaction of earning in-game items, characters or other things!
Find out what micro transaction systems I propose for every gaming genre that falls in the "live service games" category by watching this video!
