Mini Ninjas Gameplay Chapter 13 - Boss Timid Swimmer
Mini Ninjas is a 2009 action-adventure game developed by IO Interactive and published by Eidos Interactive for Microsoft Windows, Nintendo DS, PlayStation 3, Wii and Xbox 360. A Mac OS X version of the game was released on July 8, 2010, by Feral Interactive. In December 2011, it was announced that the game will be also made available as a browser game for Google Chrome. A Shield Android TV port was released in 2017.
Mini Ninjas is a linear third-person action-adventure game. It features six playable Mini Ninja characters, each with their own unique abilities, weapons and skills. Players can collect special weapons, including caltrops, shuriken, different bombs and fishing rods, and a multi-functional ninja hat, as well as a variety of potions and food items. The main protagonist, Hiro, can cast spells, including fireball and lighting attacks, camouflage, and time manipulation. Hiro can also possess spirits, such as animals, for a short period of time. Spells are cast using Ki, which is dropped by enemies and can be replenished with potions.
The enemies in Mini Ninjas are animals enchanted by the main antagonist, turning them into samurai warriors. When defeated, the curse is broken and the enemies return to their previous animal form, and can assist the player. For example, brown bears can attack with their claws, warthogs charge at enemies, and panda bears can slam into the ground. All animals have a keen sense of smell for spotting ingredients and collectibles in places that are easily overlooked. Other enemies in the game include ghosts, which approach the player and attempt to drain their life force.
Throughout their journey, players can collect coins and ingredients, such as mushrooms, flowers, and ginseng roots. They can exchange these coins for weapons and recipes from the Tengu, crow-like humanoids who also give quests and advice. Fruits found on trees or bushes can be harvested by shaking the bushes or the trunk of trees, which will restore their health. Other foods like sushi do the same thing.
Scattered throughout the world are ancient shrines, each containing a scroll that grants Hiro a new spell. There are also 100 Jizo statues hidden throughout the game, which can be collected for special achievements or trophies.
Hiro's hat boat sails down the makeshift river into the main castle where he suddenly bumps into the stilts of Boss Timid Swimmer. Enraged at the sight of Hiro, Timid Swimmer swings his large fishing spear at Hiro knocking him all the way across the room. Unlike the rest of Samurai bosses level, this is the only level where Hiro can also fight the boss while possessing one of the blue samurais among the platforms there (I admit that this level is unique cause Hiro looks cool while controlling the samurai in his max level 15 that enable his spirit form Kuji magic possess small blue samurais at the cost of limited action performed as he couldn't use the ninja hat and has to swim manually without it or use other Kuji magic while possessing the samurai). In order to defeat Timid Swimmer, Hiro must row towards the staircase in the left corner of the room. Timid Swimmer will constantly throw shurikens at him after a while and when he gets close enough, he'll strike will his spear. Once on the platforms, Hiro must head towards the tallest red pillar in the room (You can't fight the boss using shorter red pillars as long as his stilts are taller than the pillar itself since he couldn't reach them). Timid Swimmer will then chop it in half. When Hiro jump onto the pillar, a quick-action moment will start which relies on which mouse buttons must be clicked before Hiro lastly jump on the platform beside his stilts and cut it shorter when pressing the right mouse button (He can also do that as samurai but it will be harder to swim back to the stair afterward from the samurai's limited action under possession). The second time add space buttons that must be press when Hiro jump on the bent broke wooden pillar while dodging the boss's swinging spear attack. The third times Hiro dodged all of Timid Swimmer's attacks, he will finish him off by jumping and strike in the chest which the boss will fall to the water and burst in bright purple light with Hiro raising his blade in victory.
The Japanese characters in the level cover read Sui no Bosu which literally mean Water Boss (Obvious name for the boss since Hiro fought him on his stilts in flooding castle). I will show you what it looks like to fight the boss when Hiro is possessing one of the blue samurai there but let's finish this level first and maxed his level to 15 on next chapter first, shall we?
