Difficulty ramps up pretty heavily in these later levels, requiring many re-tries and sometimes setting you back nearly a half hour in progress from the last save point if you lose all your lives. Brutal, but once you learn the levels/bosses it's really not so bad.
I wasn't expecting this game to be so short, but it seems that it can be completed in about 3 hours. Gotta say that the gimmick of bosses suddenly becoming invincible later on in the fights is rather annoying also. This is done repeatedly throughout the game, and makes some of the fights very tedious (at least at first). Makes you wonder over and over again why, if they have these awesome invincibility shields, didn't they just use them at the start of the fight? Feels like a lazy way to extend the battle time instead of adding more interesting elements (possibly stage/environmental) to prolong the encounter. I did like the character switching near the end- just wish it was a bit more fleshed out and a longer experience. Feels like this went by far too quickly for a $25 game.
I did enjoy the artwork throughout this game, even though I don't feel the core design reaches the same level. The abilities were fun to use (for the most part) while they lasted, but it was rather shocking to reach the end and find that it's never explained why Gareth seemingly has amnesia and forgets the spell he just learned on the previous stage every time.

There is a demo ROM and the option to purchase Genesis/MD compatible carts on their website, and hopefully they will have a direct ROM purchase option there in the future as well:

MiSTer supported this on day one of it's release, while other commercial FPGA consoles and flash carts reportedly will not load it until their firmware is updated sometime in the future. This is due to the large ROM size using a special mapper that IIRC Pier Solar used similarly in the past. Thanks Kitrinx for getting that support in place years back, and making the mapper support robust enough that new titles could effortlessly work like this.
