MiSTer FPGA - Kurohige no Golf Shiyouyo (黒ひげのゴルフしようよ) / Game Boy Advance
Thanks to yxkalle for the suggestion on this one. This is an interesting golf game that never left Japan, which I probably would have never tried if not recommended. The first ~15 minutes of the video are all the character introductions and demos on various courses, and then I play through a couple sets of the "Adventure" mode.
Traditionally I am not a big fan of golf games in general. Ones that stand out to me either have very arcadey controls (Neo Turf Masters), or unique/interesting courses to play on that you would usually not encounter in the real world (Mario Golf, Hot Shots). This game fits in both categories, being both very easy to pick up and play even as a beginner, and also providing some very unique areas to compete in.
The sprite-based characters are well animated and add to the overall fun of the game, while courses are rendered in crude 3D, and provide some decent camera options once you learn the controls. Language barrier isn't a big deal in this one, besides understanding the club and ball selections and random character dialogue in adventure mode.
If you're a fan of golf games that aren't trying to be serious simulations, this is a great pick. Also features multiplayer either on a single console or with system link. I'm guessing this would work well with the GBA-2P core, but have not tried it yet. In a golf game where you take turns, it's not really necessary in the first place, but there may be some neat observation options when the other player is taking their turn in the two-system setup.
Fun fact about the dev. team (Inti Creates): In the late 90's it was formed by 10 former Capcom employees. They went on to develop and publish many games, even for Capcom. More recently they created Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon and it's sequel. Neat lineage here.
