Monkey Island 3 - The Curse of Monkey Island - Walkthrough Part 3
000:00 - Look at the Navigational Chart which will open a map screen where different ships will enter the area and you can click on them to initiate a sea battle followed by an insult sword fight. Click on the ship with the "?" for now, avoiding Captain Rottingham's Ship for now.
00:20 - The first section is the sea battle. When you are in-line with the enemy ship right-click on it to fire the cannons. You only need to hit it once to board the ship.
01:12 - The second part is an insult swordfight. Like previous games you need to learn new insults and then use them to learn the correct retort. Use the two insults we learned from Rottingham, if lucky you might learn one of the replies if not the pirate will teach us another couple of insults we can learn. You will probably lose the first fight but we don't have any treasure to lose anyway!
02:03 - Look at the Navigational Chart and start the process again. Click on the ship of "Really Not Fearsome Pirates" again, because we already beat them in sea battle it will go straight to the insult swordfight. Now we have some new insults lets use them on the pirate and after 3, Guybrush will win and take their treasure.
03:38 - Everytime you get treasure from one of the ships look at the Navigational Chart and head to Plunder Town Harbour and speak with Kenny. He is now selling cannon upgrades so with our new found treasure lets buy the first upgrade the "Buccaneer's Buddy".
06:20 - With the new upgrade installed look at the map again and click on the next ship with a "?". Again defeat it in a sea battle and then use the insults we have learned to learn the correct replies while learning some new insults from the tougher pirates. We need to do this until we have defeated enough ships to get all of the cannon upgrades from Kenny. After every swordfight victory, head back to Kenny and get the next model up until you have the "Destructomatic T-47" and have learned most if not all of the insults and replies. They are all listed below, the first line is said by the normal Pirates and the second is said by Rottingham but the replies are the same.
Pirates - Every enemy I've met I've annihilated!
Rottingham - My attacks have left entire islands depopulated!
- With your breath, I'm sure they all suffocated.
Pirates - You're as repulsive as a monkey in a negligee.
Rottingham - You have the sex appeal of a shar-pei!
- I look THAT much like your fiancé?
Pirates - Would you like to be buried or cremated?
Rottingham - I give you a choice. You can be gutted, or decapitated!
- With you around, I'd prefer to be fumigated.
Pirates - Heaven preserve me! You look like something that's died!
Rottingham - Nothing on this earth can save your sorry hide!
- The only way you'll be preserved is in formaldehyde.
Pirates - I'll skewer you, like a sow at a buffet.
Rottingham - Your lips look like they belong on the catch of the day!
- When I'm done with YOU, you'll be a boneless fillet!
Pirates - Killing you would be justifiable homicide.
Rottingham - When I'm done, your body will be rotted and putrefied!
- Then killing you must be justifiable fungicide.
Pirates - En garde! Touché!
Rottingham - Your mother wears a toupee!
- Oh, that is so cliché!
Pirates - Throughout the Caribbean my great deeds are celebrated!
Rottingham - My skills with a sword are highly venerated!
- Too bad they're all fabricated.
Pirates - When your father first saw you, he must have been mortified.
Rottingham - You're a disgrace to your species, you're so undignified!
- At least mine can be identified.
Pirates - You can't match my witty repartee.
Rottingham - Nothing can stop me from blowing you away!
- I could, if you would use some breath spray.
Pirates - I can't rest until you've been exterminated!
Rottingham - Your stench would make an outhouse cleaner irritated!
- Then perhaps you should switch to decaffeinated.
Pirates - You're the ugliest monster ever created.
Rottingham - Your looks would make pigs nauseated.
- If you don't count all the ones you've dated.
Pirates - I'll leave you devastated, mutilated and perforated.
Rottingham - I can't tell which of my traits have you the most intimidated!
- Your odor alone makes me aggravated, agitated, and infuriated!
Pirates - Coming face to face with me must leave you petrified.
Rottingham - Never before have I faced someone so sissified!
- Is that your face? I thought it was your backside!
Pirates - I'll hound you night and day!
Rottingham - You'll find I'm dogged and relentless to my prey!
- Then be a good dog. Sit! Stay!
32:30 - When you have learned all/most of the insults and upgraded all of the cannons you are now ready to take on Captain Rottingham so click on his ship on the map and defeat him in a sea battle. You will then challenge him to an insult swordfight. The insults are all different but the replies are the same as long as you've learned them. Use the Rottingham section from the list above to help.
