Nancy Drew: Alibi in Ashes - Comparing the novels (1990 & 2001) with the game (2011)
Welcome everyone to another book to game comparison video! In this analysis, I examine HeR Interactive's 25th game, Alibi in Ashes (2011), and the two books that inspired it: Nancy Drew Case File False Impressions (1990) and the digest paperback The Clues Challenge (2001).
This is one of the rare "later" games in which HeR Interactive truly did base their game on the book they claim it's derived from. And in this case, there are two sources. The game primarily pulls details from False Impressions, and then a few elements from The Clues Challenge. It's a surprisingly good adaptation.
The two things I would change, and as I point out in the video, are the culprit and season. I explain at the end of the comparison my reasoning for disliking their choice of culprit. As to the time of year, both books take place in winter and I would have loved to play another snowy game.
This was a fun comparison to do. I hope you enjoy it, too! Cheers!
