Nancy Drew: Tomb of the Lost Queen - Comparing the novel (1995) with the game (2012)
Greetings viewers!
In this video I attempt a comparison between the 1995 Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys Super Mystery Secrets of the Nile and the 2012 HeR Interactive game Tomb of the Lost Queen. This is a difficult analysis to complete, as the stories are completely different. They share a location and two character names; beyond that, they are not alike.
This is a rare instance where I feel that HeR Interactive managed to write a better game than the story of the source material (I generally wish that the company had followed the novel's storyline more closely); however, this novel could have been set anywhere, and HeR Interactive having directed focus on Egyptology, tombs, and pharaohs really lent to the game feeling appropriately set in Egypt.
As usual, I make some queries over choices: for instance, why did HeR Interactive create new character names, rather than taking from the book (more than the two that they did)? Did the team even read the book? Could there have been a second book that it could have been based on, for more similarities in storylines?
What questions come to mind when you review the differences between the stories?
Thank you for watching, and enjoy!
