Funny how quick the story can go when you don't have a lot of sidequests to do.

Funny how I can easily distract myself with sidequests anyway.

Well, regardless, no need to go over the main story stuff, right? Weak android black box signals in an amusement park, Pascal's village of pacifist machines, alien signal from the underground, blah blah blah.

As far as sidequests go, though, I finally got to finish The Wandering Couple, which might as well be my white whale. After fixing them up in the village, they're supposed to make it to the flooded city, but as you might recall, the quest is failed if you accept the story mission that takes you there. Anyway, for their next step, they need the help of someone called "The Emancipator," except... turns out he's a swindler! There goes my 50,000G. Well, the man is fine, but the woman needs some extra help.

She was last seen near the amusement park, and it turns out she's pretty damaged. We'll need a memory alloy to save her, and, look at that, I have one. Suddenly Pascal arrives to do the repairs, and... voila! Good as new! The guy shows up, too! But things have been so rough that they have to reconsider the whole "let's desert the Resistance" scheme. The woman's solution: reformat themselves and go back to the Resistance camp in the hopes that Anemone will forgive them and welcome them back into the fold.

The man's concerned, though. If he loses his memories, he's going to lose his feelings for her. She tells him not to worry, that they can rediscover each other through the memory wipe and fall in love all over again, but also she'll grow to hate him if they don't. He agrees and asks to be reformatted first. While he's rebooting, it's her turn, but--surprise!--she doesn't actually want to be reformatted. She thinks he's a wuss and wants to make him tough this time around. She's done it several times already, and they haven't died yet, so it must be fine, right? Right.

The other quest worth considering is this 9S-exclusive quest, Amnesia. After that big explosion in the center of the city, this red-haired Resistance woman is suffering memory loss. All she knows is her best friend is dead, and her friend had a Pod. We get an image from it: a person in a red hood running her friend through with a blade. There's likely more, but the woman wants to find them and get revenge, but we can't let her rush off like that. 9S offers to find the killer instead.

The hunt starts in the Resistance camp, where someone is wearing a red hood. She says she just got it very recently from a girlfriend, the only woman stationed in the desert. That, of course, would be Jackass. She, however, also acquired it only very recently. Some crazed woman basically demanded that Jackass buy it, so she did, just to get her to leave. That woman had red hair. Hmmm.

So, back to the client, 9S tells her what they've found so far, and that he thinks she had something to do with it. So, she lets us dig deeper into the Pod, and it turns up another image: the client herself, standing over her friend's corpse. It all comes back to her. She's not actually Resistance, she's YoRHa. She's a Type E unit, which means her job is to track down traitors and execute them. She was ordered to kill her best friend, and she did it, but she was so wracked with guilt that she erased her own memory. And we just brought it all back! Whoops. But, hey, if we need someone assassinated, we can call in a favor!

Anyway, the existence of Type E units isn't exactly common knowledge. As 2B says, some things are better left unknown.
