Speaking earlier of competent opponents...I find it very amusing that through the entire battle with Sanatos, both stacks were kept at such a height as to avoid the panic theme until after his theme had gone all the way through once, which is kinda neat. Corderia, not quite, but almost enough so that you could say that we get to hear it all the way.

Okay, so about here is where the particulars are lost upon me, because the final few moments are not quite so simple as with Yoshi's version of the story. Sanatos's man behind the man is actually the goddess Corderia, but what she's actually doing isn't really explained in great detail if I'm reading it properly...it's basically "You shouldn't be here...get out if you want to live."

And of course we don't listen, and I make Flare beat her up...and all she has to say for herself is that she's glad that the fairies were stronger than her with a parting "We will meet again" before fading away.

Then the world goes back to normal, and what's this? It's Corderia! Wow, that was fast, we did meet again!

What's this? It turns out that Corderia is actually the queen of the fairies! Notice the bright purple text with the repeated phrase among all the fairies, "じょおう" or "Joou," one that I know all too well.

Wait...nobody noticed such a paper-thin disguise? All she did was wrap herself in her outrageously long hair and scowl at people contemptuously and she was clearly a different person. Oh, and she always faced sideways to the screen, because we couldn't see that white gown she's wearing...but the fairies should've been able to tell based on the large sprite form that we got to see outside the caves of Death Mountain.

And...for some reason, this has all been a test, with the monsters being illusions created to test the strength of the fairies for the purpose of seeing if they were worthy of making a new world...because...I don't know...but they're all so excited about it!

Also, for all of the hard work, apparently it's decided that Lip will become (one day?) the new queen of the fairies...hooray!

Everybody agrees to work hard at making the new world and Lip says that even when she's the queen, they're all her friends and she loves them all. Awww.

Okay, so this is probably the "best" ending, but if I remember correctly about Yoshi's version of the story, his "best ending" was to declare that Bowser is gone for good and there's no need to fear...but if you didn't finish the whole thing without losing a game, he'd say some kind of obvious fourth-wall-breaking thing about "I can't continue! I have to do this without needing to continue!" before the world will be at peace. I'll have to check and see if maybe there's not some completely different set of events if you lose somewhere along the line.
