Wow. Not only did I finish up the game as planned, I even managed to finish it earlier than I was expecting. I think my major issue with Disgaea is that constant push-and-pull between running into enemies or challenges that are impossible to overcome by sheer strategy alone and going on massive grinding sprees to push past those walls. Fortunately, 4-3 was the last hurdle in this playthrough… though I did need two grinding sessions to make it through. After that, the final level was a breeze. Nice to see all those cameos though – though it looks like the booby witch came from Rhapsody, not the original Disgaea like everyone else did. She was apparently an optional recruit in the first two games in the series though.

Seriously though, those Game Over squares were really the only thing that made beating 4-3 impossible on my first try during this recording. …well, that’s what I’d *like* to say, if not for the fact that my last two remaining units got obliterated right before they overtook the entire battlefield. I also feel like Neko never told me just how awesomely broken thieves (and their off-shoots) are in this game. Really makes me wish that I’d focused more on leveling up Fujiko early on in this playthrough, as well as making her “sisters” sooner. But maybe I’m just not remembering – after all, it’s been seven years since I last played it.

Thus, my promise to Neko has finally been fulfilled… and I won’t have to play any more Disgaea until NISA decides to port the third game to PC. From what I’ve seen online, the first and fourth games are among the most popular games in the series – while Disgaeas 2 and 3 seem to be on the more unpopular side. That makes Disgaea 2 PC’s entire existence kind of weird from my perspective. I have to wonder what the logic was there. Maybe Disgaea PC’s performance encouraged them to port its sequel to PC, but the second game failed to meet their sales expectations, forcing them to focus on just porting anything that came to consoles moving forward instead. Still a bit weird that we never got Disagea 1 “Complete” though. And you’d think that if the first game was so popular, we’d get its direct sequel: Disgaea D2. Oh well, who knows what the future will bring?
