And then, there was one.

I'm not sure what I was expecting when it came to Bomberman 64. Honestly, Bomberman Hero seems to be the most popular game in the series on the Nintendo 64 -- while fellow fifth-gen Saturn Bomberman is generally considered one of the franchise's best overall. But Bomberman 64 seems to reinvent the series' traditional gameplay into something of a 3D puzzle game. Unfortunately, that comes with the usual issues that come with most 32/64-bit 3D games: the perspective is messed up and the camera is abysmal.

There's apparently a "true ending" with a sixth world, which requires you to collect 100 Gold Cards -- each gated behind various activities in each stage. I'm not going to lie, I originally considered the possibility of going for that... but those delusions were immediately demolished by the end of World 1. Honestly, at this point, even getting the standard ending feels like it's going to be a chore. Seriously, the boss fights in this game are total nightmares and some of the stuff they expect you to do is insane.

I'm hoping I can wrap things up in two session, because this is painful. I can already tell you that unless Hudson Soft manages to pull off something amazing, this game is probably going to end up with a 7/10 by the time I'm done with it. 7.5 tops, and even that will require an immense turnaround, especially considering how the next world is going to be ice-themed.
