Well, talk about a reversal of fortunes. Last time I barely made any progress, but I managed to set a new record of cleared stages in this session. I went from only being halfway through the second chapter to hitting the last stage of the third. I’m legitimately impressed with how well I did this time around. Granted, I doubt that the next recording will be the last for this game, but it’s definitely motivating to see that there is indeed a light at the end of the tunnel.

Once again, I botched talking during the recording. I’m not sure what’s up with me: Disgaea 2’s grind-heavy nature should literally make it the perfect game for me to start going down my stream of consciousness rabbit hole. I guess there’s just something distracting about the gameplay itself that’s preventing me from going all the way. Maybe it’s the fact that any progress I make in the game seems to be of the “stop/start” variety, where it’s basically a cycle of mindlessly grinding on Stage 1-4 until I can actually progress to the next level. On the plus side, I do at least seem to be getting the hang of the strategic element of the game. Most of the time when I hit a wall, it’s just a matter of not having the levels to do the kind of damage I need to pull through.

I did mean what I said about turn-based strategy/strategy RPGs though. Like, I’m pretty sure I’ve never encountered anyone who has a love for the genre that is as versatile as most of the others I’ve encountered. Like, Capcom and SNK are easily my favorite fighting game developers – but I’m not going to turn down a well-made game from Arc System Works or Netherrealm. But I don’t think I’ve seen anyone gravitate towards the gameplay of Super Robot Wars, Disgaea, Fire Emblem, Final Fantasy Tactics *AND* Advance Wars at the same time. At best, I’ll often see a mixture of those last three. But never the whole set. Hell, the guy who requested that I play Disgaea in the first place doesn’t seem to like Fire Emblem at all… at least not the last time I checked.

Meanwhile, I clearly fall into the SRW camp. I just wish more of the games came westward. Damn region lock on Steam.
