After exploring Iron Island, I take on the Gym in Canalave City, which specializes in Steel-type Pokémon, but the Trainers there have Pokémon of different types, possibly because there aren't too many Steel-type Pokémon in the Sinnoh Dex, and the Gym Leader is Byron, the father of Oreburgh's Gym Leader Roark.

As for the rest of the description, I recommend watching the full video before reading past this point of the description

While Canalave Gym specializes in Steel-type Pokémon, the majority of the Trainers in this Gym use the Onix line, and while Fire, Ground, and Fighting are super effective against Steel, Water-type Pokémon are a good choice to deal with the Onix line, and Steelix being part Ground-type. As for other Pokémon, there are two Ace Trainers, one has a Skorupi, and the other has an Azumarill, they both know Iron Tail. In Platinum, the Trainers had better variety, they even use Magnemite, Bronzor, and one of them uses a Scizor.
This Gym has a bunch of lifts, and after getting through them, it is time to fight Byron, the Gym Leader of Canalave City, and he is the father of Roark, the first Gym Leader we have fought, here is his team of Pokémon used.
Bronzor: Confuse Ray, Sandstorm, Trick Room, Flash Cannon
Steelix: Thunder Fang, Earthquake, Sandstorm, Gyro Ball (Soft Sand)
Bastiodon: Iron Defense, Thunderbolt, Stone Edge, Flash Cannon (Sitrus Berry)

In Platinum, Byron would have a Magneton instead of Bronzor, and his Bastiodon would have Metal Burst in that fight. His Bronzor has Trick Room, which will benefit the rest of his team, but it shouldn't be that tough, Fire, Ghost, or Dark-type moves are good against it, and if you have a Pokémon with Taunt, you can shut Bronzor down. Both Bronzor and Steelix have Sandstorm, which will boost Bastiodon's Special Defense by 50% once it comes out. Steelix has Thunder Fang to provide coverage against any Water-type Pokémon you use against it, and it has Sturdy, so don't expect to take it out in one hit, Bastiodon has Thunderbolt for that reason as well. Bastiodon is very defensive, and it can use Iron Defense to boost its Defense stat by two stages, so it is best to use Special Attacks, otherwise it will be tough to take down. Bastiodon's type combo of Rock/Steel does give it a 4x weakness to Fighting and Ground, so if you have moves of those types, they can get in some good damage against Bastiodon.
After beating Byron, he gives us the Mine Badge, some Stickers, and TMs for Flash Cannon, a Special Steel-type move, if you are using Empoleon, this is a great move to teach to it, I highly recommend that, you can even teach it to Bronzong or Lucario if you are using them.
After leaving the Gym, Barry is waiting outside, and he goes to the library, where Professor Rowan and Dawn are, Professor Rowan talks about the three lakes in the Sinnoh region, and he tasks me, Dawn, and Barry in finding out the Legendary Pokémon that live in those lakes, and we learn that Barry didn't get a Pokédex because he rushed out before Professor Rowan could even give him one. During all of this, we hear something has happened, which we at first thought was a tremor, and if you talk to the NPCs, their dialogue changes to reference the sudden events, and when we go outside, a man tells us about something has happened at Lake Valor, so it is time to see what has happened there.
