Pokémon Let's Go, Pikachu! Playthrough 4: Rock-Solid Brock
In the beginning of this video, I spent a while finding a Bulbasaur in Viridian Forest, and since I have Oddish on my team, I wanted a back-up Grass-type for the Pewter City Gym. Now that we have arrived at Pewter City, I check out the museum and then take on Brock's Gym, which uses Rock-types.
As the rest of the description, I recommend watching the full video before reading past this point of the description.
In the Pewter City Pokémon Center, you can buy a bag of Pewter Crunchies from a man for 500 Poké Dollars, or Poké Yen, or whatever the money in the Pokémon world is called. The Pewter Crunchies is like a Full Heal where it restores any status condition, and it is also like other region's items, like the Lava Cookie, Old Gateau and a few others, and it is a daily event where you can buy the Pewter Crunchies on the next day.
Speaking of daily events, the woman with her Slowpoke will give you a Big Pearl when you accept her offer in spending time with Slowpoke, and since you can repeat this event the next day, Big Pearls can be sold for a lot of money, this is a very useful daily event.
New to Pokémon Let's Go is that there are requirements for taking on the Gym, in this case, you need a Grass or Water-type Pokémon on your team, Oddish or Bellsprout depending on your version are obtained on Route 1 and in Viridian Forest, and you can find Bulbasaur in Viridian Forest. You just need it on your team entering the Gym, then you can just put it away in your Pokémon Box if you really want to challenge yourself.
Other options are Nidoran's Double Kick, and both Pikachu and Eevee can learn Double Kick, giving you a good advantage, but Rock-types are very defensive, so it should take about two hits. Butterfree's Confusion is good for targeting the Rock-type's low Special Defense.
The Gym Leader, Brock isn't that challenging if you have a Grass-type on your team, about one Absorb from Oddish or two Vine Whips from Bulbasaur should take out his team. Geodude isn't that tricky, but Onix is tough, it has Headbutt to flinch slower opponents and Bind to trap one of your Pokémon and deal damage over time.
After defeating Brock, you get the Boulder Badge and the TM for Headbutt, which is a good move for this early on, and TMs are infinite use, so you can teach Headbutt to many Pokémon on your team, and it should replace Tackle as your Normal-type move, because that 70 base power and 30% flinch chance is very helpful for the early game.
