Pokémon Let's Go, Pikachu! Playthrough 10: Catch Some Growlithe
0It is time to go through the Underground Path from Cerulean City to Vermilion City. Along the way, I give Trace an SS Ticket, since Bill gave me two SS Tickets, so might bring a friend along. On Route 6, I encounter some Growlithe and Jigglypuff for filling up the Pokédex, and I catch my first permanent team member on Route 6.

At the beginning, I show that you can ride on Pokémon, and Onix is one of the few Pokémon that you can ride. Some Pokémon you can fly on, like Charizard, while some Pokémon have increased movement speed.
In the Underground Path, you can collect hidden items, when Pikachu or Eevee wags its tail, it will tell you there is a hidden item.
For Route 5 encounters, which are also on Route 6, and I did go over Abra in the previous part, but here are the rest of the Pokémon. First up is a version exclusive to Let's Go, Pikachu! That is Growlithe, a Fire-type Pokémon with good offensive stats and Speed. Growlithe will be my first permanent member of the team, I am using some temporary Pokémon on my team. The nice thing about Growlithe is that it can learn Flamethrower at Level 17, giving it a strong move for this early on, and can be taught Dig through TM. Growlithe learns some very good moves, Heat Wave at Level 24, Crunch at Level 28, Outrage at Level 31, Play Rough at Level 35, and eventually Flare Blitz at Level 38. When you get a Fire Stone, you can use it to evolve Growlithe into Arcanine, but I recommend waiting till Crunch at Level 28 in order to evolve Growlithe, or if you can hold off until Flare Blitz at Level 38, then you will have a very powerful Physical Fire-type attack, because Arcanine has great stats all around. Good offensive capabilities and high Speed. Arcanine does not learn any moves through level up, but it will have Flamethrower as its main move. I recommend Growlithe for your team, because Arcanine is a great Fire-type to add to your team if you are in need of a Fire-type and you don't want to use Charizard.
For Let's Go, Eevee players, you can get Vulpix. Unlike Growlithe, Vulpix is more focused on Speed and Special Defense, but its Special Attack is quite decent, it will have Confuse Ray and Will-O-Wisp, and it isn't until Level 24 that it learns Flamethrower. Once you get the Fire Stone, I recommend evolving Vulpix once it learns Flamethrower, because it gets Fire Blast at Level 31, but Flamethrower is more reliable for Accuracy. Unfortunately for Ninetales, it's Special Attack is above average, but it has good Speed, so it is more about using Confuse Ray and Will-O-Wisp for crippling foes than dealing damage. Nasty Plot is not available until very late in the game when you have access to the Move Reminder, so Ninetales is a decent Pokémon, but not the greatest, if you like the Pokémon, then you can use it.
Then we have a fan-favourite Pokémon from the Anime, and has been in Super Smash Bros. since the N64 era, it is Jigglypuff. While Jigglypuff has high HP, rest of its stats are bad, and its only good level up move is Body Slam at Level 22. The nice thing about Jigglypuff is that it can be evolved into Wigglytuff right away with the Moon Stone, which gives you a solid Normal/Fairy-type early game Pokémon. Wigglytuff has high HP, its stats are about average, and Wigglytuff is more reliant on TMs, so it can use Headbutt, Dig and Seismic Toss. Like with Clefable, Wigglytuff can learn Flamethrower, Thunderbolt, Psychic, Dazzling Gleam, Shadow Ball and many other moves. It's good as an early game Pokémon, but Wigglytuff does start to fall behind later in the game as it is outclassed by better Pokémon.
You can find wild Pidgeotto on this route, but you are very likely to have evolved it from a Pidgey at this point, so Pidgeotto is more of a Pokédex filler if you haven't evolved it from Pidgey. You can also encounter Psyduck on this route, and on rare occasions, Chansey, which is a great Pokémon to catch as it awards a ton of experience when caught.
