Before starting Surprise Trade, I show a Mystery Gift code that is available for a limited time, and it does tie in with the most recent episode of the Pokémon Anime in Japan, you get a Charizard with the Dark Tera Type, and it has the moves Crunch, Flare Blitz, Acrobatics, and Belly Drum, and it has 31 IVs in Attack and Speed, with 20 IVs in the rest of its stats.
This week, I will be trading Rockruff on Surprise Trade, and I usually breed for 31 IVs in at least 4 or 5 stats, and some of them have Own Tempo, which is a very rare Ability on Rockruff, it is only Rockruff with that Ability that evolve into Dusk Form Lycanroc. I do have Keen Eye and Vital Spirit on the Rockruff, Vital Spirit turns into Sand Rush when it becomes Midday Form Lycanroc, and its Hidden Ability of Steadfast turns into No Guard when it evolves into Midnight Form Lycanroc. I went with Jolly for the Nature, as Rockruff has good Attack and Speed for stats, and for Egg Moves, it learns Endeavor, Thrash, and Last Resort, only three moves.
For Pokémon that can learn the Egg Moves, it learns Endeavor from Dunsparce, Litleo, and Grookey, Last Resort from Eevee, Fidough, and Pachirisu, and it can get Thrash from Mankey, Teddiursa, Sandile, and many others.
Rockruff does have Tackle and Leer for starting moves, and for level up moves, it can get Sand Attack, Double Team, Rock Throw, Howl, Bite, Rock Tomb, Roar, Rock Slide, Crunch, Scary Face, Stealth Rock, and Stone Edge. It evolves into Lycanroc at Level 25, and for each form, the Midday Form learns Sucker Punch, the Midnight Form learns Counter, and the Dusk Form learns Crush Claw upon evolution. For moves, the Midday Form can learn Accelerock, Quick Guard, and Quick Attack, the Midnight Form learns Endure, Reversal, and Taunt, while the Dusk Form can learn all of those moves.
Next are TMs, I will go over what all forms of Lycanroc can learn first, it can get Charm, Fire Fang, Thunder Fang, Trailblaze, Bulldoze, Snarl, Dig, Brick Break, Zen Headbutt, Psychic Fangs, Rock Blast, Stomping Tantrum, Taunt, Swords Dance, Iron Head, Iron Defense, Play Rough, Earth Power, Giga Impact, Hyper Beam, and Tera Blast. For each form, the Midday and Midnight Forms learn Mud-Slap, Sunny Day, and Body Slam, the Midday and Dusk Forms learn Drill Run, while the Midnight and Dusk Forms learn Reversal and Outrage. For each form, the Midday Form learns Agility and Swift, and the Midnight Form learns Low Sweep, Fling, Shadow Claw, Foul Play, Fire Punch, and Thunder Punch.
In competitive battling, none of the Lycanroc forms are in the top 150, but I would say that the Dusk Form is the best out of the three. While there isn't as much difference to their stats, Dusk Form Lycanroc has 2 points higher Attack, while the Midday Form has 2 points higher Speed, and Dusk Form has Tough Claws for its Ability. It does get some good moves like Accelerock, which the Midday and Dusk Forms can learn for their signature move, and some good coverage options like Close Combat, Drill Run, Play Rough, Psychic Fangs, Iron Head, and many others, and it can use Swords Dance to increase its Attack. The Midnight Form can use Stone Edge to make use of No Guard, and it can use Fire Punch and Thunder Punch, which is one thing different to the other forms. Best Tera Type is Fighting or Fairy to power up Close Combat or Play Rough.
In Double Battles, the Midday Form is the one that is used the most, this is because it has Sand Rush, and it pairs well with Tyranitar, as it has high Speed to put that to use and deal some damage to foes with Rock Slide, it has Close Combat for coverage, and Accelerock for priority. Lycanroc can even use the Endeavor and Accelerock strategy, commonly known as FEAR because it was made popular because of a Level 1 Rattata with a Focus Sash, Quick Attack, and Endeavor. Lycanroc can use a Ghost Tera Type to give it an immunity to moves like Mach Punch and Fake Out, Lycanroc is one of two Pokémon with Sand Rush that is currently available in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet, the other is Houndstone, which can make use of Last Respects in the sandstorm when most of its teammates are down.
It is a good Rock-type when going through the game, although it is stuck without a Rock-type move until Level 12, but at least Rockruff's type does help in the early game when most opponents have Normal-type moves. When evolved, Lycanroc is a solid addition to teams because of its Rock-type, and with moves like Rock Slide and Crunch and good TM access to moves like Iron Head, Play Rough, Psychic Fangs, and Close Combat, this does give it some versatility, the Midday Form can use Drill Run, and the Midnight Form has access to Fire Punch and Thunder Punch to give them moves to handle Pokémon of different types.
