R-Type Final 2 Stage 7.1 with Arvanche R-Typer
This video is part of a larger set of ship showcase videos that I've done. This is the twenty fourth video that I recorded.
Ships in this series: branches off from the Platonic Love and is succeeded by the Claw Claw
The Arvanche is a Bydo style ship, and one of the most Bydo looking of all, almost looking like a seahorse. The red laser fires a twirling red machine gun in front of it. The blue weapon fires a wide beam in front of the Force that's great for taking out popcorn enemies. The yellow laser fires up to three spikes that stick into the floor and ceiling, but won't fire more until they start to disappear from the screen - a very situational weapon. While detached, the Force behaves like a Standard Force and fires bullets in four directions like the Standard Force. The Wave Cannon fires a ball that explodes into a swirl of bullets when it makes contact with something. The missiles are standard homing, but Bydo themed. The Bits are standard Bydo style Round Bits.
I've said this before but I'll say it again - I love this stage. It starts out challenging, but once you get into space, as long as you know where to position your ship, you're solid. It has you as a Bydo style ship after completing 6.1 basically flying around the Space Corp fleet wrecking everything. You can even see the havoc you've wreaked by looking at the background as the stage progresses, a cool nod to where you've flown before. Near the end of the stage when the line of R-Types flies behind you, you have to be careful of the Heimdall's guns in the background, because they do aim at you, and you can be shot down by them. I know it sounds cheap that you can get killed by the background, but I think it's a cool twist once you know about it.
I still don't understand why the Bydo are attacking you when you first arrive - maybe to throw you off that you're a Bydo yourself before attacking the human fleet? I don't know. I just think it's an oversight on the part of the developers. I love the music in all sections of this stage, especially when you first reach outer space. The track is called Returned? A Familiar Space City, which is also the name of the stage. I don't think this stage is quite as cool as R-Type Final's F-B, but it's a nice ending for the sequel. Some of the DLC stages made up for this one by adding more R-Types attacking you. You'll get to see me play one of those stages down the line.
