R-Type Leo - Arcade - Attract, intro & playthrough in 2 player mode (World Version) [4K60]
Full longplay / playthrough / walkthrough of the excellent R-Type Leo in two player mode. Despite not being developed by Irem, it was in fact developed by Nanao, now known as EIZO who were in fact Irem's parent company. This third and final arcade release might just be the best in the series with more balanced and enjoyable gameplay than the first two instalments.
This was recorded on the world version of the arcade game which has a few changes to the Japanese version. The Japanese board used the classic single player mode, where you have to replay a section of a level without power ups and only featured one button control. In two player mode you carry on regardless of when a player dies, making it a bit easier, however the world version also does this for single player also. That said only the last two levels really ramp up the difficulty and the game isn't the hair ripping exercise of the other titles
Leo also remains the best looking and sounding arcade game. However, despite this the R-Type series as a whole had fallen out of favourite with arcade owners when Leo released and it was pretty rare to find a cabinet, certainly in Europe. Perhaps that explains in part why this third title never got a home, out side of a PC windows release in modern times. So much so that many never even realised it existed, until the emulator scene in the early 2000s. A modern console release would be very welcome.
