Donkey Kong - Arcade - Japanese set, intro, attract and playthrough [UHD 4k60]
Full longplay / playthrough / walkthrough of the first two loops of the original 1981 Donkey Kong from Nintendo. This is from the Japan board which has a different level layout for the first few loops compared to the western revision. Noticeably the fact the game features all four stages in the first loop in this version, much like most of the home ports of the game. There are actually a large number of board revisions for Donkey Kong and it's unclear how many are actually documented. Later boards addressed some bugs and even made the game harder from the outset.
Jumpman has the job of rescuing Lady from the giant ape known as Donkey Kong. It's all a play on the film King Kong much like most of Shigeru Miyamoto games. Of course Jumpman, would later become Mario and Lady was renamed Pauline in North America , however Lady's character design appears to be far closer to that of Princess Peach in this game.
One of the many 80s classic high score games, Donkey Kong helped put Nintendo on the map as a video games developer. Despite how popular the game was in arcades, Nintendo has rarely ever re-released the original arcade version the recent Nintendo Switch version is one such exception. It was also included as a hidden extra in the N64 title Donkey Kong 64, but wasn't unlocked until late into the game. This also means that it's on Wii U via the Virtual Console if you buy Donkey Kong 64 and unlock it in-game.
