Swagman - Sega Saturn - Intro & starting gameplay with first boss (hidden gem of a game) [4K60]
Chances are most of you reading this, have never heard of Swagman a 1997 title from Core Design. Sadly it seems few people also bought it as well, most likely overlooked during the 90s 3D crazy. Even today, the game is still not widely known about perhaps due to the 3D rendered art style. While it's a pity the game wasn't animated in a 2D style similar to the fantastic loading art used in-game. This is a real hidden gem of a game and one of the last truly original games Core Design put out, before they went into Tomb Raider overdrive with sequel after sequel.
Swagman is a top down puzzle, platform adventure similar in parts to Zelda. The game features a number of interesting mechanics such as the ability to swap between the two player characters Zack and Hannah. However, Zack needs to rescue Hannah before you can use her and the players also change forms as they move between the real world and the realm of Swagman. The aim is to beat the titular Swagman who has unleashed his nightmares over the sleeping town of Paradise Falls. Interestingly this and Nights into Dream... both have a similar themes and were released within a year of one another, but Swagman started life in 1994 as a 32X title.
Randomised Gaming's only complaint is the hits boxes for some of the characters don't match their models that well and it isn't always clear when an enemy will hit you or not and when you can hit them. On PS1 the game is still very cheap to pick up, however the Saturn version suffers from the usual second hand seller racketeering pricing on various websites, despite not being that rare. There was a Sega Saturn demo also release of the game and you can find that very cheaply

Swagman was only ever released on PS1 and Sega Saturn. It's content not available on any other system and there is no digital re-release either. Square Enix now hold the copyright somewhere in there vault of games and this is one title that would benefit from a re-release or remake.
