Rise of the Tomb Raider [Gameplay #3] - Old Time Religion
Despite my immense third-person action adventure fatigue I keep coming back to Rise of the Tomb Raider every now and then; albeit out of a misplaced sense of obligation more than anything else (surely I can't call myself a gamer if I haven't finished the latest Lara Croft adventure?).
This latest session was quite alright, actually, but it still bothers me that the developers squandered such potentially fascinating subject matter (embarking on a quest for immortality, investigating the true power of faith, defending the rights of a native community against thieves and tomb raiders from the outside world etc.) by settling for a clichéd McGuffin-driven loot chase with paper-thin characterizations and some embarrassingly simplistic Freudian themes.
