Secret of Evermore - Self-Imposed Challenge Run Part 36: Energy Core filler and Axe bugs
Rules so far:
-No switching to the Dog in an active combat area unless absolutely necessary
-Dog must not be dropped to 0 HPs
-Pixie Dust, Wings, and Call Beads are not allowed
-Alchemy restrictions to be determined
-Bone Crusher banned after Thraxx; all other Swords banned
-Horn Spear only allowed for a case of Verminator or for demonstration purposes; all other Spears banned other than Bronze Spear for throwing puzzle switches
-Bazooka is banned
-All Collars other than Leather Collar banned
-Jade Disc, Moxa Stick, and Chocobo Egg banned for Antiqua and Gothica until Mungola
-Armor Polish banned for Antiqua until Oglin Caves
-Most rules disabled for convenience in non-threatening areas
There is, of course, not much to getting the Energy Core we need to progress. This is primarily filler because I'm putting the Axe bugs on display. Here's a list for those interested to showcase how they hadn't been so playtested:
-The L3 charge attack will never cut the Insurmountable Waist Height Fence shrubbery. This applies for all 4 Axes.
-The L2 and L3 charge attacks will never destroy active barricades. This applies for all 4 Axes again. (Counting Spider's Claw even though it can't destroy any active barricades anyway.)
-The Atom Smasher will not destroy the grey rock barricades that require the Knight Basher, other than the one in the Great Pyramid's basement floor, which doesn't go into a crumbling animation.
I can point out about how the obvious idea of making the Mighty Glacier actually fun to use would speak volumes about a game's design involving this novel concept called Tender Loving Care. I make a point about Kid Icarus Uprising having the right approach via its usage of the Power system. Secret of Evermore, in terms of the Axes being usable, has the mercy that charged attacks have pseudo-intangibility in general and it makes the L3 attack's high committal time actually a benefit. So the Axes, though definitely sub-optimal compared to the Swords and Lances, are still playable enough. As I'll especially display in the final 2 parts.
