Now, sit back, relax and enjoy in my walkthrough of another survival horror cult classic that is Silent Hill 4: The Room.
About Game: Silent Hill 4: The Room is 2004 survival horror video game developed and published by Konami Computer Entertainment Tokyo for PlayStation 2, Xbox and Windows-based PCs with the game being re-released on modern PCs in 2020 via online game store GOG.com. It is fourth mainline Silent Hill game with loose storyline connections to 2001's Silent Hill 2. Initially developed as a spin-off of the main series titled Room 302, Silent Hill 4 was developed alongside Silent Hill 3 before eventually being made into official titled entry of the main series. Upon release, Silent Hill 4 was met with generally positive critical reception on account of its presentation, voice acting and graphics, however, series' fans were divided due to major difference in gameplay in comparison to the series' first three entries with some fans embracing the change as welcome while others considered it unnecessary. Despite this, game was one of the nominees for GameSpot's best game of 2004 in adventure category, an accolade which it ultimately failed to win. Today, Silent Hill 4 maintains cult following as negative parts of its reputation were rehabilitated in the years since its original release but it still isn't as highly regarded as its three predecessors. Notably, this game was also the final Silent Hill game developed by Konami's Team Silent, a development team within Konami Computer Entertainment responsible for the creation and development of every Silent Hill game released since 1999 before their disbandment in 2005. Due to this, all Silent Hill games released after 2004 were outsorced to an external development teams while Konami retained official intelectual rights to the series and remained involved in the series as the publisher.
Story of the game follows Henry Townshend, young freelance photographer and loner living in the Room 302 of South Ashfield Heights, an apartment complex located in the fictional city of Ashfield, Maine. Approximately two years after he moved into Room 302, Henry started having horrifying nightmares and eventually found himself chained shut in his own apartment with other strange occurrences, such as cryptic phone calls being made to Henry's apartment despite his land line being cut off and his neighbors and superintendent being unable to hear his cries for help also occurring. Five days into his predicament, Henry checks his chained apartment door. As he does, he hears a loud bang coming from the apartment bathroom. Upon checking it, he finds a mysterious hole in the wall where his cabinet used to be. In desperation, Henry decides to enter the hole, hoping that it will lead him out of his apartment...
