Slay the Spire + Binding of Isaac + Bunnyman Action RPG? – Sephiria Demo –
Sephiria is an Indie, light Action RPG where you’re a sort of bunnyman who go downs into a mine to beat down some moles.
Why?
Because the Magic Tree told you to!
Don’t over think it!
Think Slay the Spire, but not another card game (thankfully), + Binding of Isaac, but less edgy and brown, and not covered in crap.
Would I go Bunnyman, over abused child-mans?
In a heartbeat!
Slay the Spire + Binding of Isaac + Bunnyman Action!
That’s the best short description of the game I can think of.
Sephiria has the powerful stacking artifacts like in Isaac, as you can have many here, letting you get stronger and stronger as you find more and more upgrades.
Unlike Isaac, every room here is not a square, but a short series of linked blocks, which you clear all at once, then select another short series in a Slay the Spire kind of room selection.
A Light RPG:
At first glance, Sephiria appears to be a sort of retro Zelda like, Action Roguelite combination, yet it is not, as it is not open world, and puzzles are not present.
Here, you have the bunny village, the bossy tree, and the mole mine dungeon.
You descent down the mine, beating the crap out of moles and taking their stuff, cutting through the little mini lvls until you reach an exit, then select the next series of rooms, Slay the Spire style.
There are Artifact rooms, which give you a pick of 1 of 5 items; which are passive upgrades: think a rotating blade that hurts enemies it hits, a golden cloak that gives you an extra dash, more dps on your strikes; expected stuff like that.
There are Miracle rooms, which offer a pick of 1 of 3 upgrades, often with a down side.
The Anvil rooms give a pick of 1 of 3 weapon upgrades for the run.
There are shop rooms, rooms with a mini-boss, item rooms, and there is also at least 1 NPC you can find, pay and hire to help you; handy.
Meta Progression:
Meta Progression is very present in Sephiria, in the form of Sapphires.
When you die, you get sapphires equal to your lvl, used on the tree to unlock stacking meta progression, like the ability to reroll items; or a new weapon, like the greatsword, then it’s max hp, then starting potions, and crit: this leads to very significant, stacking, meta progression power.
Online Multiplayer is planned; in case that is something that interests you.
Controller Support is present, as is good old mouse and keyboard.
I mainly used mouse and keyboard controls in the above video, as I found it much more responsive.
Note: This is an early look at Sephiria so any bugs or other oddness is not representative of the final product.
Still, Sephiria is a fun sort of Slay the Spire + Binding of Isaac + Bunnyman Light Action RPG that is likely to appeal to you if you like at least one of those things, and is easily well worth a wishlist and a watch.
