Not sure what's up with the blue bars on the top and bottom. But the bottom of the screen glitches a bit during play. That might be why it shows up as blue in the video. Maybe it's the codec that Kega Fusion uses that renders it blue.

The control feels a bit different due to certain behaviors not present in the final version. If you get an invincibility power up there's no stars surrounding Sonic. But the music will play until you finish the act and you will remain invincible too. After completing Emerald Hill you are just bounced back o the Sega logo screen.

This is an early prototype of Sonic 2 that was shown on the 90s Nickelodeon show Nick Arcade. The only normally playable zone is Emerald Hill, which uses the music from the first game's Starlight Zone. The design is somewhat different, it lacks a title card and there are no bonus levels. In fact, you won't even find star posts.

However, if you enable debug mode with code FFFFFA:0001 you will be able to place one. It's actually a beta object from the first game. Here you may place it and activate it once. It will act as a checkpoint. In debug mode you are immortal unless you fall into oblivion. So it's kind of useless here. In Act 2 the graphic for the checkpoint post is corrupted but still usable. If you place multiple checkpoints after activating one they will all be activated.

An unused beta enemy known as Snail appears both here and in the Simon Wai prototype. It's rather annoying here. Sometimes it appears to come out of nowhere.

The only way to play some of the other levels is to use the level select code up, down, down, down, down, up and start. They all have Sonic 1 placeholder names. Green Hill will bring you to Sonic 1's Green Hill zone. But there lots of graphical glitches and the collision must be fixed with a set of codes. There's also an unfinished Chemical Plant Zone, Hill Top Zone and Hidden Palace Zone. So it looks as if those along with Emerald Hill were developed early on. The two player mode is visible in the demo but unplayable.
