Stardew Valley 189 :: Removing the Weeds
Spring has arrived to the valley! It's time to clear the debris on the farm and plant some crops! We visit Pierre's to buy seeds, and spend the rest of the day planting almost every spring crop there is. To list them all, we plant blue jazz, cauliflower, coffee, garlic, green beans, kale, rhubarb, and tulips!
We gather some crops from the indoor garden before watching the television and checking the calendar! Then, we leave the farmhouse to enjoy the bright and sunny spring weather. Kent sends us a mega bomb in the mail, which I guess is a way of starting the new year with a bang!
From the storage chests, we pick up our rhubarb seeds, strawberry seeds, and deluxe fertiliser! We make more pale ale in the kegs behind the silo, and we realise we have accumulated an entire stack of them so we take half of the pale ale to sell later. Then, we start cutting away the weeds on the fields!
After we have cleared some farmland of debris, we head south to check on the fish ponds! We place the mugs of pale ale into the shipping bin. Then, we visit our animals grazing in the pen! While harvesting our first truffles of the year, we remove the weeds, rocks and logs in the pen as well.
Now that all our animals are outside, it is a little difficult to keep track of all of them! Still, we try to ensure that we have petted every animal before we leave. We replace a stone sign that we had accidentally knocked off the pond of sturgeons, then start tilling the land in front of the Junimo hut!
On this patch of farmland, we plant the coffee beans that we took with us when we left the farmhouse earlier. Afterwards, we pick up maple syrup from our heavy tapper and clear more weeds around the farm! We dig up an artefact spot to find some useful bone fragments and coal.
Past noon, we pick up our horse and head to the mushroom cave! We store our items in the storage chests before heading to town, stopping by the bus stop to chat with Pam and to forage for a few spring plants. In town, we make a big purchase from Pierre's shop! We stock up on all the seeds that we want to plant this season.
Outside the general store, we count the items that we have bought before checking the trash cans. At the Saloon, we pick up close to a dozen ice creams! We also pick up our weekly special order from the noticeboard outside Lewis's house. We choose Clint's quest as we had just completed the exact same special order put up by Robin last week!
Back at the farm, we keep away the items that we collected before going to Ginger Island! We speak to Caroline and Shane at the island resort, then head to the island farm to clear more weeds and harvest pineapples! After looking around for a bit, we go into Mister Qi's purple walnut room to collect our quest!
Although we are tempted to take the easy Four Precious Stones quest, we choose Skull Cavern Invasion instead! We had just completed the same quest last week, but we will definitely do it again as it is quite rewarding! After the seeds have been sown, there will probably be some free days for us to venture into the Skull Cavern.
We travel back to Stardew Valley and start planting the cauliflower seeds! We prioritise the cauliflower and rhubarb over the other crops as these have to be planted by today for three full cycles of harvests with the deluxe fertiliser! Still, we find that we have enough time to plant most of the crops.
Near the bee houses, we plant the blue jazz and tulips so we can get more valuable honey! Flowers by themselves are not very profitable otherwise. Blue jazz is also one of the ingredients used to make a lucky lunch, the cookable dish that has the best luck bonus in the game! Also tulips are loved by Evelyn!
I'm sure that Maxan was quite happy to get his hands dirty on the field again! Not only is it fun to plant and harvest crops, farming is still one the biggest sources of money in the late game, with kegs and preserves jars! Also, as we have seen, farming gets you ingredients for cooking and loved gifts for the villagers!
After planting our garlic and green beans, time is almost up! We call our horse for increased speed as we return to the farmhouse. All the work on the farm has left us low on energy, but we can always eat our salads to avoid getting exhausted! At the end of the day, we receive a good amount of gold for our pale ale!
