#SuperOldGameSaturday - Sonic Mania Plus - Encore Mode + Knuckles & Knuckles Mode (Xbox One)

On this day 7 years ago, the best modern entry in the Sonic the Hedgehog series released, in form of Sonic Mania, which we played through the main mode of 2 years ago here on #SuperOldGameSaturday. However, we still had the Encore Mode and Knuckles & Knuckles mode to rationalize a return to the game (which this time, I'm running through the Xbox Series X with the Xbox One disc), which is where we are now, but unlike our first look at this, I flew solo on this one (due to regrettable things that happened with our first part of this that I was morally obligated to openly mention on this show). This 2D entry in the series was a collaboration of Sega and famous names in the Sonic fan community, including Christian Whitehead, Simon Thomley and Tee Lopes that, with its 2018 Encore DLC, ended up serving as both a prequel AND sequel to Sonic Forces, while blowing the doors off of that game (and every other Sonic game since) in terms of quality and, for our second look, I was joined by the best chat on Twitch, including a new member of the #SuperOldGameSaturday family, drYVinn, who brought great insights into the speed-running community of this game and also some hidden tricks that I was not aware of until this show. As such, after our 100% run through the Encore mode, the Knuckles & Knuckles part of this was done by me as a blind speed-run that changed my way of thinking about this already great game and lighting the spark for future speed-running attempts on this show beyond the couple we've done on prior shows. From Green Hill Zone to Titanic Monarch (twice), we went through it all for our well-deserved anniversary celebration of this great game, while going into great discussions, learning new things, seeing some unexpected glitches and having another great edition to/indication of our best chat on Twitch.
