For the third time in 2024, we here at #SuperOldGameSaturday are playing a classic Sega arcade racing game and thankfully, unlike the last two times we did so, I didn't run into the audio problems I sadly had on those. I'm even more happy about that here, because ElecVerse wanted to see Super Hang-On, the 1987 sequel to the 1985 bike driving game, Hang-On and, as we always do, myself and the best chat on Twitch went the whole way with this one. For this show, I used the Xbox One version of Yakuza 6: The Song of Life to ensure that our play of the arcade original would allow us to go down all of the game's 4 continents, see all 48 stages and get all of the endings, while also enjoying the great music, great sights, great speed and enhanced mechanics of this game, namely, the new speed boost and the unique wipeout animations that even gives you strategies for making mistakes. However, we go the extra mile on this show and, in my curiosity about switching live between HDMI systems, we also showed off the Sega Genesis port of this game (and its exclusive Original mode), along with a trio of other tangentially connected 16-bit Sega arcade racing ports for good measure. As always, we went into our memories of this game and other Sega racing games, but also went into other topics, like other taikan bodily simulation arcade games, licensed games, pharmacy chains from the 1990s and much more, and had a great time doing so, all while seeing a large amount of close calls and near misses during our drive.
