#SuperOldGameSaturday - Scooby-Doo Mystery (Super Nintendo)
Recorded/Aired on October 5th, 2024
It's October and, as we always do during this month every year here on #SuperOldGameSaturday, we celebrate the upcoming Halloween holiday with a selection of games each week that fit that theme as part of our Halloween Block. For the first of 2024's offerings (and in the quickest turn-around of live show to edit on this show, since we did this one last night at the time of this upload), we're going a little more family-friendly with our first game based on the long-running Scooby-Doo cartoon series with the Super Nintendo edition of 1995's Scooby-Doo Mystery. Unlike the Sega Genesis version, which is a point-and-click adventure game, this is a 2D platforming/mystery game that was made by Argonaut Software (whose Croc: Legend of the Gobbos we're also currently playing) that has you guide Shaggy and Scooby through 4 mysteries to find the ghosts haunting a shipwreck, carnival, swamp town and mansion and unmask the real culprit behind it, with the assistance of Freddy, Velma and Daphne. DollyFinn asked for a specific Scooby-Doo game in Night of 100 Fights, which we'll play when we return to the series, but I was able to get this one, which I have 29 years of experience with, squeezed for a bit of 1960s fun horror for this year first. As such, she and the best chat on Twitch joined us as we went through the mysteries and our history with Scooby-Doo as a franchise (and its continued relevance throughout the years), the games based on, other Ruby-Spears and Hanna-Barbara works, other aspects of developer Argonaut and even some sights and glitches that I've never seen in all my years of playing this game. It's also the shortest show we've done in over a year (hence, why I was able to get the edit done and uploaded less than a day after we did it live), making for a short, but sweet first shot of Halloween for 2024 and of this classic series. I had a great time going through this one and getting the season started right and, until we return to this series and our other Halloween Block offerings, I hope you enjoy our play of Scooby-Doo Mystery on Super Nintendo (and if you like what you see here, stop by https://www.twitch.tv/captainditrag, where you can join our shows and conversations on what we play each week live, as well as see the planned time of our next stream, which is this Saturday at 3 PM EST)!
