Chronos has been carefully designed to be one of the most annoying bosses in the entire game by simply wasting your time. Fitting, I suppose.
Chronos can act frame 1 and the actions he can do include: Tetra Assault or One Million/Billion Strikes (Assault but with different finishers); Collider; the abillity to cast Haste, Witchcraft or Gravity Well; summon Chronos Bits; or worse of all, an Overlimit that lasts way longer than average. He also has the same damaging aura as Elize when releasing a spell, so be careful when approaching.
The biggest offender, however, is that Chronos has the skill Last Stand, which reduces damage taken by 25% when below 25% HP. But that doesn't seem entirely correct...
By comparing the damage of Exalted Divide at the beginning of the fight and when Last Stand is active, damage is clearly reduced by more than 25%. Assuming I did my math right, he reduces damage by ~31% instead, which would be the result of adding this percentage multiplicatively. So Chronos has 2 stacks of Last Stand! Great design.
On the flip side, Chronos doesn't have that much Iron Stance and he still takes forever to recover from knockdown.

The battle event has been removed so Chronos doesn't have access to Time Compression and I have some partners to help with Link Artes mid-combo. This version is just for fun, really.
Witchcraft is the perfect opening because I have plenty of time to Charge and break Chronos' Iron Stance with an Exalted Divide. By Linking with Elize, Gaius can hit Dark while using a different elemental weapon thanks to Bloody Claw. Alas, this is the closest Gaius will ever come to hit full multiplier because he doesn't have access to Shot at all...
Anyway, the timer for this Link Arte is pitiful and it also knocks down, so I have to OTG and add another element right away.
Afterwards, I Link with Alvin and prepare a Link Arte Cancel after using Light of Ruin. The timing for this is very strict because doing it too early means the spears won't be launched or Chronos won't be staggered anymore if it's done too late. You have to press R2 the moment the spears start moving.
Rending Tiger kinda misses at the end but there's not much I can do about it, I've tried different positioning to no avail. At least the spears from Light of Ruin keep Chronos in place for most of the Link Arte.
It may be hard to notice but both Elize and Alvin are equipped with the joke cat weapons. Because, you know, "become a CATalyst", Rollo was supposed to be a disguise for Chronos... and all of that.

Now this fight is as intended, with the battle event and completely solo.
If Chronos chooses to approach, a preemptive Celestial Rupture will break his Iron Stance and launch him while triggering an aerial counter. It will be either Million or Billion Strikes, so I can dodge with couple sidesteps and take advantage of its lenghty animation + retreat phase to Charge and start a combo with Exalted Divide.
The biggest issue here is Last Stand because there's no way Gaius can inflict Skill Seal as he doesn't have a high enough Int stat, not even the Sharp Edge skill helps. However, there's no need for this ailment when you can brute force your way!
If I've dealt 220k~225k damage by the time Eradication Sweep has been used, I've hit jackpot. Chronos is slightly above the 50% HP mark and I can use Blade of Heaven at max multiplier for massive damage. That's around an extra 100k, maybe more depending on damage rolls and crits!
Chronos is now in Last Stand range and I can dedicate the last part of the combo exclusively to his last ~117k HP.
Chronos will start using Time Compression and like in the last encounter, I have time to Charge before cancelling it. Remember that it's important to come to a complete standstill, preferably by taunting, before using the Chromatus transformation, otherwise it can glitch or even softlock the game.
After canceling Time Compression, Chronos can act immediately and his actions include: Giga Assault, retreat to cast Gravity Meteor, Cage of Torment or Chronos Beam. The last two are the ideal outcome because he can easily be interrupted with an Exalted Divide. The Knight's Crest comes in handy for this half of the fight, I need as much damage as possible to finish Chronos off before I run out of TP.
