The Best Of 2024: The Video Games I Enjoyed The Most This Year
45Over the years I have admitted that my taste in games is different than others. This is why I decided, instead of talking about a game of the year, what games did I play in 2024 that I had the most fun with and I enjoyed playing the most. From retro to modern games let's take a look at the best of 2024 and what video games I enjoyed the most and what I thought was among the best I played in 2024.
Robocop: Rogue City
I love the original 2 Robocop movies, even as cheesy as they are. Getting a direct sequel to those 2 movies with Peter Weller returning to voice Robocop again is fantastic. The game started a bit glitchy, but subsequent updates have made it much, much better.
Ratchet & Clank: A Rift Apart
I love this game so much, it is such a worthy addition to the series. This game truly feels next generation, one of the few experiences on the PS5. Insomniac Games has once again done an amazing job and created a must-play title in the franchise.
NASCAR Heat 5
As a racing sim fan, the genre has definitely had some bleak years. NASCAR Ignition was an abomination, so its direct predecessor is the way to play. Granted, it doesn't have a lot of tuning options for the current-gen car, but the previous-gen car is fantastic. It also maintains access to the Truck Series, Xfinity, and dirt late models.
MLB The Show 23
I know it's a season out of date, but I am still trying to get thru a full season and get to the playoffs. I've managed to go undefeated with over 100 wins, and yes I do have some legends on the team like Prince Fielder, Ryan Braun, Robin Yount, and Paul Molitor. But it's still been a great experience, I really want a no-hitter and World Series win with this team!
Super Mario 3D World & Bowser's Fury
This was a fantastic Wii U game, and the fact that I can share it with my youngest is amazing. She's still learning, but the fun part is I can pick up her character and carry her past difficult sections. It still hold up all these years later and I consider it a must-play.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
Much like Mario 3D World, the best part of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is playing it with my 2 daughters and my oldest's boyfriend. It is truly family time when we bust out this game and even though it launched on the Wii U, it still holds up. I can't wait for the rumored follow-up on the Switch 2, it should be fantastic!
Super Mario Bros Wonder
I got Super Mario Wonder for Christmas in 2023, and while I did like it initially I didn't stick with it. In December of 2024 I picked it up again and man, what a great title! It marks the first time that Charles Martinet doesn't perform Mario's voice, and the new guy is pretty good.
Super Mario World
I have spoken about my love for this game, it's my favorite game of all time. I love the soundtrack, the introduction of Yoshi, and the level design and play control are all so good. While no game is perfect, for me, Super Mario World is about as close as you'll get.
