The Cyber Shinobi (Sms) Playthrough / The “ugly duckling” of the Shinobi series.
The Cyber Shinobi (1990) by Sega is a sequel of questionable quality but apparently good enough to give the green light to the next installments of the Shinobi brand. Well the game from the very beginning seems to be a budget title.... Both musically (but that's the general flaw of this system for me, this sound chip doesn't make very pleasant sounds) and graphically, well, how to put it....... it's just poor. Sprites are yes quite large but not very detailed and really poorly animated. Except for the walking animation, here you have to admit that the guys made an effort :D the attack animation is bizarre to say the least.... It looks like Joe chasing flies away with the handle of his katana . In general, I noticed that some of the sprites of enemies or moving objects have a border that covers the background, as if someone created them but forgot to remove the layer of pixels extending beyond the main sprite ..... strange really, because the last time I saw such an effect in games on the Zx Spectrum. The backgrounds are also very uneven. Some decent and others looking like some kid sketched them in painter. On top of all this, almost half of the screen is covered with a hud, where information about our life, remaining time to complete the mission or amount of remaining ammunition is displayed......, which also looks poor by the way. In the game we play as a grandson of the original protagonist with the same name Joe Musashi. His task will be to get rid of the remnants of the criminal organization his grandfather once destroyed called Zeed, and now called Cyber-Zeed. This organization has taken control of a sizable amount of plutonium, which gives them the ability to blackmail various governments with visions of annihilation. It plays quite well, but the hit detection here is bizarre to say the least. Our main sword attack doesn't seem to have any range at all, but it's actually quite large and deals two damage when held down. Magic, on the other hand, is so limited that throughout the game I was able to find a perfectly full belt, so be careful and don't use it too often :P Of course, I'm joking because the game is so easy that after two attempts you can finish it without any problems. I can not recommend this game because at that time there were many better games like Castle of the Illusions or Mercs. It's only a game for people who want to know the whole shinobi brand, if you don't feel such a need then just let it go.
