In the 1980s, there was a juggernaut taking over living rooms all over the USA, that being the Nintendo Entertainment System. A vast improvement over previous video game systems, the NES truly unlocked a world of video gaming never seen before in the home. We got epic masterpieces that people still love and play to this day. In the late '80s, Nintendo took that same philosophy and adapted it to the handheld market and released the Game Boy, and as you might expect many titles came over from the NES to the Game Boy. while the NES was king, there were times when the Game Boy port of a game was actually more fun and better than the NES version. So let's take a look at three games that were better on the Game Boy than on the NES.

Number 3
Double Dragon
while many of us play Double Dragon on the NES, we also realized fairly quickly that this game was not nearly the performer that the arcade version was. it had tons of lag and slow down, and flickering all over the place. while it was still fun, he was not a great port. The Game Boy version, while it plays slightly slower, does not suffer from the leg and slow down and flickering that the NES game had. And overall, it's the same basic game.

Number 2
Donkey Kong
Donkey Kong for the NES was, for the most part, a direct one-to-one port of the arcade version. It is missing a level, & there are some other minor differences, but it's a pretty faithful recreation of the original. The Game Boy version, however, gives you a completely different experience after the first level, and it's amazing. It is terrific sound, great gameplay, and overall is a much better game.

Number 1
Tetris
I mean come on, Tetris alone sold how many millions of Game Boys? The NES couldn't even get the version consistent between the Tengen version and the one that eventually came out from Nintendo. I truly believe the Game Boy version is the definitive version of Tetris, and it seemed like it was just designed for this platform. Easy to pick up, hard to put down, Tetris is the definitive title not only for the Game Boy but as a representative of how games could be better on the Game Boy than on the NES.

What do you think of my list? What games would you add? Share your thoughts in the comments!
