Touhou 8 (Imperishable Night) - Experimental Run
Me...playing Touhou? What is this madness?!
Well, today happens to be the 1-year anniversary of when I did my first-ever Let's Play video. In honor of this, I thought I'd do something special and a little out of left field. I decided to try a Touhou game for the first time. I'd heard quite a bit about the Touhou series, but I'd never actually played one. (I do seem to know somewhat more about them than I should, though, considering that I a) don't watch anime, b) don't play shooters, and c) have to question anything with that kind of fanbase. Touhou fans, Twilight fans, and furries seem to have something in common: the members of the fanbase that are deeply disturbing give a bad name to the rest of them.) I chose Touhou 8 because I'd heard it was one of the easier ones...and the fact that it has more music that I like than any other game in the series doesn't hurt.
In case you didn't know, Touhou 8 (and most of the other games in the series) is a vertical shooter, a "bullet hell" type in this case, which means that the bullets usually move fairly slowly, but there are a LOT of them on the screen at once. Your player character is a fair maiden from the wondrous land of Gensokyo, where humans and magical beings live (and if you think that means lots of peace, love, and harmony, you'd be dead wrong). Your quest is to figure out why somebody stole the moon and replaced it with a fake one (?!). Your favorite color is...probably red, if you choose the particular player characters that I did.
I must admit, I did a lot better on this than I expected to...I managed to get to the end of stage 3, at least. Admittedly, my "15 minutes" ended up being 25, and it would have been even more if I hadn't died so quickly to the stage 3 boss. I'm not planning to do a full LP of the game, though, or probably even come back to play it further. I don't really care for shooters, even ones that have cute graphics and awesome music. It was kind of an interesting thing to try once, though.
