Tyrian 2000 - Engage Mode - Part 37 (?Tunnel?) - Test Of Courage
Harble Wom and the other scientists have had enough time to overpower the Microsol guards in the area they're being held captive. After capturing some Microsol scientists, and getting them to talk after a friendly interrogation using laser probes, Harble reports all that was learned to Trent:
Soon, Trent will reach a secondary Core-like system of Zica origin. It is believed to have been installed in case the primary one fails - which it obviously did when Trent destroyed it. Both systems draw enormous amount of power and cannot run simultaneously, else Microsol could have simply doubled the speed at which the planet ignites. Now though, the primary Core is gone, and Microsol's forces are in complete chaos and unable to shut down the power systems that run through the planet's crust.
The plan is as such: Trent must reach the Zica Core and activate it, using access codes Harble and his colleagues obtained from storming the Microsol research facility deep in the planet. The heat wave will prevent the planet from freezing solid. Yes, freezing solid. Terraforming was done on Ixmucane by Microsol, long ago. Now, if the temperatures drop to their natural, Core-less levels, the entire atmosphere will literally freeze.
Trent approaches his objective, and encounters a fearsome ship. It is unlike any ship he has fought before, perhaps another miracle of the Zica, and subverted by Microsol. Trent must destroy it, else the planet's freezing will be unavoidable.

One of the end-game hints describes a "test of courage" for this level : don't destroy the boss until "the explosions stop". It's ambiguous what it wants.
***Odd: I got a Firebomb AND a Microsol FrontBlaster 2 at once. I accidentally summoned a FrontBlaster 2, replacing the Gerund. Then I accidentally got back my Gerund, completely unaware of what happened.
See at 1:21 in the vid, right when I take the armor from the Armor Ship.
I know you can do this glitch in Episode 5, but I didn't know you could do it in Episode 4, too. Might help against Core's boss***
So I decided to use only the keyboard, abstain from using special moves (except repair), and waited as long as possible before delivering the killing blow.
The story can fork on this level, unlocking different levels. The planet's freaking FREEZING. Apparently the core thingy you've destroyed was the main energy source of the planet.
Anyway, this level consists of a few sawblades, then a boss fight. That's it. The boss isn't very tough ; except a firebullet burst or two at a certain point, it only shoots prot(r)on torpedoes. Mind you, dodging with the keyboard is harder. You can avoid every explosion by moving the side opposite of the torpedo. This way you'll only get minor damage when 2 torpedoes are fired at once.
Eventually a timer starts. You DO have limited time here ; failing to destroy the boss means a "bad ending, but better than if you fail Core". Which means many scientists die, but more get rescued. Anyway, when the timer appeared, I destroyed the boss' sawblades. However, that timer seems to automatically stop on its own, regardless of what you do. I think.
Then the boss shoots duos of firebullets. This is trickier to dodge, and the keyboard gave me problems.
Eventually another timer starts, and that's when I nuked the boss.
Difficulty : 3/10 (normal) 6/10 (Test Of Courage)
Number of attempts : 2 (fooled around for fun, then got a sawblade to the face)
