Tyrian 2000 - Engage Mode - Part 46 (Brainiac)
Gyges has always been a strange world. It isn't the first time Trent is forced to fight unusual ships, but this time, the sheer absurdity of this enemies is difficult to accept. Trying to make sense of the situation leaves Trent unable to come to any sort of conclusion. And that's where he receives messages that help clear up what's going on.
Transon is shocked to learn Trent is in Gyges. With services such as Fluxnet down, the war-torn planets like Deliani and Savara have difficulty sending messages between each other. Communicating within a planet is simple, but sending messages across hyperspace isn't.
Much to Trent's surprise, Transon forgets to close the communications channel after he's done talking. Transon accidentally reveals to Trent the troubles he's having getting Deliani back online, and his amazement at having been able to contact Dougan and Trent. The ace pilot certainly enjoys a good chuckle at Transon's little blunder.
Less funnily, Muldar aka Emperor Milktoe messages Trent. He reveals he intended to self-destruct Javi if he were closer to Savara, hoping the resulting explosion will wipe out entire cities. He boasts how the worlds are in chaos and it is his best chance to take over all the planets. So, this is why Miltkoe sold Savara to Microsol? For a chance at conquering the entire sector? Trent vows to punish the traitor, with no additional care given to his motives.
As he flies in battle towards Microsol and Milktoe's forces deep within Gyges, a final message reaches Trent. Vykromod? The dead Vykromod? The messages makes little sense, and the voice is odd, as if inhuman.

Something weird is going on.
Hang on, before you say "Great observation, Captain Obvious", I'm not talking about the strange enemies you fight in this level. I'm talking about the bullets the turrets shoot.
Why are they so slow? I know the game lagged a bit because of the darkness field, but still, the firebullets are slower than in the first episode. Maybe these levels get slower bullets?
At any rate, this is a long level, and moderately difficult. Many of the "decorations" are in fact solid walls, and you may very well crash, not knowing that. You can fly through them with minimal damage, however.
you'll face two types of turrets, but as I said, they shoot slower. They are protected by the walls, however, so you'll need to maneuver to get to them, bash through the walls, or use Invulnerability.
Eventually the screen goes fiery, facing some fire-relevant enemies, and then does the same for ice. You'll have to put up with an invincible laser ship locking on to you from behind.
Then you'll face a "wheel" of whirling... rocks? Spheres? Anyway, only the red one is vulnerable, so aim for it. Once per rotation, however, all the rocks will shoot at you ; dodge, else you'll suffer massive damage. The fact there's a vertical wall splitting the stage in two doesn't help you, either. Invulnerability is your best friend, again.
Difficulty : 6/10
Number of attempts : 1
Remember I mentioned time travel in a previous video? Transon's Datacubes are all ONE LEVEL LATE at this point. Some make sense if you extrapolate what he says, but he asks you to do fights you've already won.
Also, he forgets to close his communication network twice, and we learn things. He's apparently a lazy douche bag, using you to do all the work instead of sending more fleets. Sounds like a treachery, but is that really the case?
Your mileage may vary, but I find its actions somewhat understandable. He used all available ships from EVERYTHING that is not Microsol, during the battle of Ixmucane. Every other corporation in the known universe.
Then Deliani and Savara got attacked and severely damaged ; most of the allied ships got destroyed or incapacitated. Transon tried to get at least Deliani back online, using the rescued scientists from Ixmucane to help him get back control of the defensive structures. But he's having trouble getting anything to work.
Sure it's partly his fault for being too confident with its security, and he could at least spare Trent (the main character, aka you) some trouble, but how many choices does he have?
Trent decided to go to Gyges on its own, after a recommendation by Dougan. THEN Transon told him to fight there, once he learned he was in Gyges.
I blame Transon for barely being grateful for Trent's help, but he at least shows a lot of concern for him. But can he really count on anyone else? The universe is in danger like 5 times in this episode, and Trent has a pretty good record at saving it. Plus Transon is out of anything to command ; he can't even get his home planet back online, much less go on the offensive.
And I got carried away. Enjoy the video.
