YOU'RE SLEEPING ON WHITE MAGE. White mage is fundamentally VERY strong, I think a lot of people are overlooking something that is actually bizarrely strong here. I get a similar feeling as I did with expedient when I talk about the white mage-- people are sleeping on white mage and they shouldn't be!

White mage has left me conflicted when it comes to my thoughts on it. I am caught feeling like I’m not in sync with the thoughts of many others and I’ve for better or worse never been one to just listen and nod my head agreeably without question.

When I sit down and think about the changes there are awesome parts to it.

Cure 3 for instance has been incredibly teeny tiny super small, and now it’s finally being brought to a bigger size.


To say the least this will make it wildly more effective in my opinion. Cure 3 is an incredibly powerful area of effect burst heal on demand and the burst aspect is actually very important versus a slow trickle that could leave your party open for successive damage to wipe them out. Cure 3 also has no cooldown, a big reason why cure 3 was rarely used was because outside of the most coordinated statics it was unreasonable to use effectively outside of very specific stack mechanics since it would miss half the party which was obviously incredibly frustrating.

To put how strong this is into perspective, Sage gets a similar ability called Pneuma that heals the exact same amount on a 2 minute cooldown timer. But since cure 3 is also a spell you can also ramp it up with many effects that only impact spells which is any heal amp that specifically says healing magic potency like temperance, neutral sect, dissipation or fey illumination which won’t impact oGCDs unless it states healing actions like asylum does. Astro for instance doesn’t have a method to enhance their own off GCD abilities which makes the bulk of their options.

Point is, cure 3 baseline is super strong and actually leverages buffs like fey illumination and temperance that may go unused otherwise. More on that in a second because this is a very powerful part of white mage.

I’m going to edit in here cure 3’s burst can be made even more effective by popping plenary indulgence making it a whopping 800 AOE healing potency burst per GCD no asylum or temperance or fey illumination! That’s huge!

Now the biggest concern with cure 3 that remains is obviously the MP economy of the white mage since this skill sucks up MP like wild. In part this can be mitigated with thin air charges that are like 15% MP pockets.

But the developers made clear during the live letter that they are revisiting the MP economy of all of the healers, not even just specifically white mage who I’ve talked about in excess on my channel is pleading for help in mp.

This is the hardest part for me to comment on because we obviously cannot know the numbers until patch day a week from now but depending on how the developers approach this white mage might be significantly less burdened with MP problems.

Which makes me look at things like fflogs and wonder how much of this data is currently skewed due to these MP concerns such as how many white mage’s are slotting more piety than an astro skewing their data-- especially since white mage’s damage comes from their own efforts entirely.

To seal off cure 3 for good for this video though, the range change alone is very strong. If cure 3’s MP cost is reassessed to be lower that will make cure 3 a highly dependable option for any successive burst AOE damage. In fact I’ll double down and say it would become the most dependable option in the entire game.

Now to briefly mention the asylum radius change, if I’m honest this is much less of a concern of mine than the cure 3. It’s a nice to have I won’t say it’s bad. But it’s not going to change much because 8 yards was still big enough that a group with any coordination would stand in it and if someone was out in Narnia they will still be out in Narnia.

What I will say though is this makes me feel similar to Scholar’s sacred soil range being increased, where a massive huge perk of Sage is that you directly apply sacred soil to team mates that they can’t just run out of
