This is the music for the first zone in Lost World, so it made sense to be used as an album opener. Much like the zone itself is inspired by Green Hill Zone’s appearance, the music for the zone is inspired by the music of Green Hill Zone from the original Sonic. This track is very warm and bright, though my version uses more synth than the original. The harmony is interesting, during the chorus it uses the tonic A chord as a secondary dominant chord to the fourth D chord, then reasserts A as the tonic with a F major, G major, A major progression. bVI-bVII-I is a common chord sequence, and it’s sometimes called “The Super Mario Progression.” That’s just a bit of music theory I thought was funny.
