#1114 Mortal Kombat Deception (PS2) Unplayable Characters (16/16): Monster playthrough.
A playthrough of the unplayable character Monster in the PS2 version of Midway’s/Netherrealm’s Mortal Kombat Deception.
I must confess that I feel like a monster. Or, at least, I do when I play as overpowered characters. Monster is not one of those, but he is a bizarre, bizarre character. So, “Monster” is a primary antagonist in Konquest Mode. Some people actually think he’s a beta version of Scorpion, and it’s easy to see why. You see, Monster not only has a unique name and a unique portrait, but he’s also able to use special moves. Which special moves? All of Scorpion’s. Somehow. This is extremely perplexing, given that for nearly all the previous characters none of them could use their special moves. But nope, Monster has no problem with them. Makes me wonder if he was supposed to have a bigger part in the regular story at some point.
Monster can use special moves, but he can’t do fatalities. You’ll also see that he has Scorpion’s winning pose, but it looks rather hilarious as the camera doesn’t do a close up on him, like it usually would for Scorpion. On the whole, Monster is more or less just an unplayable skin for Scorpion. A pretty badass one I won’t deny, but like so much of this game it’s the allure that makes him interesting, not necessarily what he actually is. It’s a bit like how every likes a magic trick, until they learn how it works.
And, well, goddamn. That finishes up all the unlockables and the unplayables of Mortal Kombat Deception. Didn’t that take a while. But, is MK Deception done yet? Oh my, no. MK Deception also received a noteworthy port to the Gamecube which added two incredibly iconic MK bosses, which I’ll be covering next.
