The nominees for Game of the Year have just been announced for this year’s Game Awards. I think the picks are really interesting, not just because of which games made the cut, but also which games didn’t.

I definitely expected to see Tears of the Kingdom get a nomination. Breath of the Wild won game of the year back in 2017, and this year’s sequel is basically that game but turned up to 11.

I’m also not surprised to see Baldur’s Gate 3. Almost everyone who’s played it has loved it.

Spider-Man 2 and Super Mario Bros. Wonder are both there, which is crazy because those games were released on the same exact day. It’s wild.

There’s also two horror games that got nominated, Alan Wake 2 and Resident Evil 4. As a big fan of horror games, I love seeing that.

But, to me, the most interesting thing is what games didn’t make the cut. There’s not a single indie game nominated, which is pretty unusual. I expected to maybe see Sea of Stars.

Also, there are some pretty big name games that just aren't here. Games like Final Fantasy 16 and Starfield. Although, I can’t say I personally disagree with Starfield getting snubbed.
